Chapter 114:
Neither of them noticed the heavy wooden door crack open an inch.
Standing in the dark hallway, peering through the narrow gap, was Harper Romero.
Harper’s eyes widened in absolute horror as she watched her cold, untouchable brother passionately devouring a woman against the wall. She had never seen Jarrod lose control. Not once, not ever. And now he was consuming this stranger like a man starved.
Harper’s mind raced. Who was this woman? She wasn’t Eleanor Vance, that much was certain. Eleanor was draped in virginal white lace, cowering in the alcove with her mother. This woman was wearing midnight-blue velvet and diamonds, and Jarrod was kissing her like he owned her body and soul.

Harper’s long acrylic nails dug so hard into the palms of her hands that they drew tiny drops of blood. It didn’t matter who this woman was. If Jarrod had brought a secret wife into the estate, he had just handed Harper the weapon she needed to destroy him.
Harper silently backed away from the door. A vicious, career-ending plan formed in her mind.
Jarrod finally tore his mouth away.
Caroline’s head fell back against the cold plaster wall. Her chest heaved violently, sucking in desperate gulps of air. Her lips were swollen, bruised red, and stinging from the brutal friction of his kiss. Her eyes were glazed over with a thick, heavy fog of forced submission.
Jarrod stood frozen, his massive chest rising and falling against hers. He slowly released her wrists and lifted his right hand, his rough, calloused thumb dragging across her bottom lip, wiping away a thin string of silver moisture.
The dark, violent storm in his gray eyes was slowly receding, replaced by a heavy, possessive satisfaction.
Before Caroline could push him away and fix her ruined dress, the sharp, aggressive clicking of stilettos echoed loudly from the hallway.
The heavy wooden door was pushed wide open.
Harper Romero strutted into the parlor. A sickly sweet, entirely fake smile was plastered across her face.
She walked straight past Caroline, treating her like an invisible piece of trash on the floor. Harper walked directly up to Jarrod and wrapped her arms tightly around his bicep, pressing her chest against his arm.
“Jarrod!” Harper whined, her voice pitched high and annoying. “Why are you hiding in here? Mom and Mrs. Thorne have been waiting for you in the main hall for an hour. You’re being so rude.”
The sharp sound of the door jolted Caroline from the heavy haze of forced submission. Adrenaline, cold and sharp, instantly extinguished the heat in her veins. Caroline stood against the wall, took a deep breath, and forced her heart rate to slow down. She smoothed the velvet fabric of her dress. Her operative training kicked in, building an ice-cold wall around her emotions.
“Good evening, Harper,” Caroline said calmly, offering a basic, polite nod.
Harper didn’t even turn her head. She kept her eyes locked on Jarrod.
