Chapter 102:
Caroline’s eyes darted across the text. She saw the bold, black words: Deed of Trust and Transfer of Commercial Ownership.
“Jarrod, what is this?” Caroline asked, her voice rising in panic. “What does this have to do with me?”
Jarrod reached into the inside pocket of his suit jacket and pulled out a heavy gold Montblanc pen. He uncapped it and signed his name across the bottom line with aggressive, slashing strokes.
He threw the pen onto the table. It hit the wood with a sharp clack.
He turned his body and looked down at Caroline. His eyes were burning with a dark, terrifying level of control.
“Last night, someone bypassed the main security feed for your building,” he stated, his voice devoid of emotion. “For seventeen minutes, there was a blind spot aimed directly at your fire escape. That building is compromised.” He paused, letting the weight of the threat sink in. “So, I just purchased the Oak Court apartment building in Alexandria.”

Caroline’s brain completely short-circuited.
Oak Court. That was her building. That was the cheap, sterile apartment she rented. It was her only safe haven away from him.
Her mouth fell open. She stared at him in absolute, paralyzed shock.
“You bought my apartment building?” Caroline stammered, her chest heaving. “Why? What are you doing?”
Jarrod took a slow step forward. His massive frame backed her up until her spine hit the cold glass of the panoramic window.
He placed his hands on the glass on either side of her head, trapping her completely.
“I’m ensuring my wife sleeps under a roof I control. Your safety is my asset,” Jarrod whispered, his breath hot against her face.
Caroline’s back was pressed hard against the freezing glass. The glittering lights of Washington stretched out hundreds of feet below her, but she felt like she was suffocating in a tiny box.
She stared up at Jarrod’s handsome, ruthless face. A wave of pure, desperate anger exploded in her chest.
“You are a psychopath!” Caroline yelled, her voice shaking violently. She shoved both hands against his solid chest, trying to push him away. He didn’t budge an inch.
Jarrod ignored her struggling. He turned his head slightly and looked at the terrified real estate broker standing near the door.
“Draft a termination notice for unit 402,” Jarrod commanded, his voice echoing coldly in the large room. “Make it effective immediately.”
The broker swallowed hard, nodded frantically, and practically ran out of the conference room, pulling the heavy door shut behind him.
They were completely alone.
Caroline’s eyes widened in horror. “You cannot do that! I signed a legal lease! I have rights!”
Jarrod slowly reached up. He grabbed her wrists and pinned them gently but firmly against the glass above her head.
“You signed a month-to-month lease, Caroline,” Jarrod corrected her, his tone dripping with absolute, terrifying legal precision. “As the new owner of the building, I have the absolute right to terminate your tenancy with a penalty payout. You have no legal ground to stand on.”
