Chapter 115:
“The security in this house is getting pathetic,” Harper sneered loudly, making sure every word echoed in the room. “They’re letting cheap, low-class nobodies wander in off the street to steal our food.”
Caroline’s face turned to stone. The insult didn’t hurt her feelings; it triggered her combat protocols.
But before Caroline could open her mouth to verbally destroy the spoiled brat, the air around Jarrod turned lethal.
Jarrod’s body went completely rigid. His eyes turned into chips of black ice.
He violently ripped his uninjured left arm out of Harper’s grasp.
The sudden, brutal physical force of his movement threw Harper off balance. She shrieked, her ankles twisting in her high heels. She stumbled backward and slammed hard into the mahogany table, knocking over a crystal glass. It shattered on the floor.
Harper grabbed the edge of the table, her eyes wide with absolute shock. She looked at her brother, expecting an apology.
Jarrod took a slow, terrifying step toward her. He looked down at Harper as if she were a diseased rat.
“Apologize to your sister-in-law,” Jarrod commanded. His voice was a flat, dead whisper that carried more violence than a scream.
Harper’s jaw dropped. The words “sister-in-law” hit her brain like a physical blow.

“What?” Harper shrieked, her voice cracking into a hysterical pitch. She pointed a shaking finger at Caroline. “Are you insane? You cannot marry a bottom-tier, gold-digging whore! She’s a liar!”
The word “whore” hung in the air for exactly one second.
Jarrod moved. He didn’t walk; he lunged. He closed the distance and towered over Harper, his massive shadow completely swallowing her.
“If you ever use that word to describe my wife again,” Jarrod snarled, his voice vibrating with pure, unfiltered murder, “I will personally have my men rip your tongue out of your skull. And then I will throw you onto the street where you belong.”
Harper stopped breathing. The color completely drained from her face. She looked into Jarrod’s eyes and saw zero hesitation. She knew, with absolute certainty, that he would do it.
Tears of pure terror flooded her eyes. She clamped both hands over her mouth, terrified to make a single sound.
“Get out,” Jarrod whispered.
Harper didn’t hesitate. She picked up the hem of her expensive dress and ran. She scrambled out of the parlor, her heels slipping on the marble floor of the hallway as she fled for her life.
The room fell dead silent.
Jarrod stood perfectly still for a moment, letting the violent adrenaline burn out of his system. He slowly turned around and looked at Caroline.
The lethal coldness in his face melted away. He walked over to her and reached out to gently tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
“This is why I kept you away from them,” Jarrod said, his voice thick with exhaustion. “This house is infected with venomous parasites.”
Caroline looked up at him. She didn’t feel humiliated by Harper’s words. Instead, a strange, powerful warmth bloomed in her chest. Jarrod had just threatened to physically mutilate his own sister to protect her honor.
Jarrod let out a heavy sigh. His jaw locked.
