Chapter 266:
Caroline tumbled onto the expansive, dark leather backseat. She scrambled to sit up, her head spinning from the rough handling.
Before she could even catch her breath, Jarrod’s massive frame blocked the light. He climbed into the cabin.
He pulled the heavy door shut. The sound was deafening.
Instantly, a heavy, mechanical clack echoed through the cabin. The electronic deadbolts engaged. The ten-million-dollar military vehicle transformed into an inescapable steel vault.
Jarrod reached up and punched a button on the ceiling console.
The thick, black, soundproof partition hummed as it slid up, completely sealing the rear cabin off from the driver.
The only light came from the dim, blue floor LEDs. The air inside the sealed cabin was thick, hot, and heavy with the smell of Jarrod’s sweat, copper blood, and burnt cordite.
Caroline rubbed her bruised shoulder. She glared at him, her chest heaving.
Jarrod didn’t sit on the opposite seat.
He lunged across the cabin. He grabbed her left shoulder with his left hand and shoved her hard against the leather seatback. He pressed his heavy body over hers, caging her completely in the dark.

His eyes glowed with a terrifying, feral red light in the shadows.
“Do you think running away from me is a game?” Jarrod whispered, his voice a low, demonic rumble that vibrated against her chest.
Caroline’s heart hammered against her ribs. She refused to back down.
“I needed normal social interaction!” Caroline yelled, pushing her hands against his chest. “I went to see my friends at a bar!”
“Normal?” Jarrod let out a cruel, barking laugh.
He reached up. His left hand clamped around her jaw, forcing her to look directly into his manic eyes.
“That VIP lounge is a front,” Jarrod stated, his voice dripping with venom. “It is one of the largest illegal organ trafficking transit hubs on the East Coast.”
Caroline froze. The anger drained from her face, replaced by pure shock.
Jarrod wasn’t finished. He wanted to destroy her illusions completely.
“That plastic surgeon who was hitting on you at the bar?” Jarrod continued, his thumb pressing hard into her cheek. “He does off-the-books facial reconstruction surgeries for syndicate hitmen. You were sitting in a room full of monsters.”
Caroline’s skin turned ice-cold.
She had thought she was escaping Jarrod’s dangerous world, only to walk blindly into a slaughterhouse.
Jarrod looked at the horror dawning in her gray eyes.
But the sight of her fear didn’t calm his rage. It twisted his possessiveness into something darker, something completely uncontrollable.
He lowered his head.
He smashed his mouth against hers. It wasn’t a kiss. It was a violent, punishing bite. His teeth scraped against her lower lip, forcing her mouth open.
Caroline cried out in pain. She shoved her palms against his chest, fighting him desperately.
Jarrod’s left hand slid down her side. He grabbed the hem of her cheap cotton t-shirt. He pulled upward with brutal force.
The fabric tore.
