Chapter 277:
Cornelia’s face turned an ugly shade of purple. She slammed her manicured hands on the table.
“You are nothing but a cheap thief!” Cornelia shrieked.
Caroline’s smile vanished. Her posture suddenly radiated a terrifying, commanding presence that completely dwarfed Cornelia’s aristocratic fury.
She leaned over the table, planting her hands on the antique wood. She brought her face uncomfortably close to Cornelia’s.
“You just threatened to have my father killed,” Caroline said, her voice dropping to a lethal whisper. “You sat in this room and told me my family would meet with an accident if I didn’t take your money. Did you think I would simply fold and run?”
Cornelia’s mouth opened, but no sound came out. The shift in Caroline’s demeanor was absolute. The cheap denim jacket and sneakers no longer read as poor. They read as the practical uniform of a predator who didn’t need to dress for anyone’s approval.

Caroline picked up the pre-drafted annulment agreement from the table. She held it between two fingers, regarding it with theatrical curiosity.
“I wonder how interested General Augustus Romero would be to see this document,” Caroline said, her tone conversational and lethal. “He publicly acknowledged me as his grandson’s wife at the family dinner. I doubt he’d appreciate learning that his daughter-in-law tried to bribe me into an annulment the very next day.”
Fear finally replaced the anger in Cornelia’s eyes. If the General saw this, she would be exiled from the family trust entirely.
“Of course,” Caroline continued, “I could simply hand-deliver it to Jarrod instead. Let him decide what to do with the woman who threatened his wife’s family.”
Cornelia lunged across the table. She desperately tried to snatch the document from Caroline’s hands.
With terrifying speed and precision, Caroline shifted her weight. She effortlessly dodged the grab.
Cornelia lost her balance. She crashed into the table, spilling her hot tea all over her designer silk dress.
Cornelia let out a humiliating shriek. She scrambled backward as the hot liquid stained the expensive fabric. Her elegant facade was completely shattered.
The bodyguards rushed to help her, grabbing napkins. The room devolved into a chaotic, pathetic mess.
Caroline stood tall amidst the chaos, holding the annulment papers like a weapon. She looked down at the ruined woman with utter contempt.
“Stay away from my hospital,” Caroline delivered her final warning. “Stay away from my family. Or the next time, I won’t just ruin a dress.”
Without waiting for a response, Caroline turned on her heel. Her cheap sneakers made no sound on the plush carpet as she walked toward the heavy oak door.
She paused at the door, glancing back over her shoulder.
“Put the tea on my tab,” Caroline told Cornelia sweetly. “Since I’m fifty grand richer today.”
Caroline pushed the door open and strode out of the private room, leaving the stunned maître d’ and the furious shrieks of Cornelia behind her.
She walked out into the crisp Georgetown air. Her heart pounded with the adrenaline of a flawless tactical victory.
