Chapter 336:
Caroline let out a shaky breath, crawling under the heavy duvet, feeling the lingering heat of his body on the sheets.
She listened to the sound of the water turning on in the bathroom, her heart still racing from the intense encounter.
Despite the fear, a twisted sense of satisfaction bloomed in her chest. His extreme, terrifying jealousy proved he cared. Deeply.
The physical and emotional exhaustion of the day finally caught up with her, pulling her rapidly toward sleep.
Her breathing evened out, her body relaxing completely into the mattress as she drifted off.
Inside the bathroom, Jarrod turned the water to its coldest setting. He gripped the tiled shower wall with his left hand, letting the icy spray hit his chest, trying to wash away the violent possessiveness still boiling in his blood.

The freezing water finally shut off, leaving a heavy, tense silence in the small bathroom.
Jarrod stepped out of the shower, water dripping from his broad shoulders. He wrapped a white towel low around his waist.
He ran his left hand through his wet hair, taking a deep, calming breath, believing he had successfully suppressed the beast inside.
He opened the bathroom door and stepped into the dimly lit bedroom, his eyes immediately drawn to the bed.
Caroline was fast asleep. In her restless slumber, she had kicked the heavy duvet down to her waist.
The oversized blue scrub top had ridden up, exposing a tantalizing stretch of her pale stomach and the soft curve of her waist.
Her dark hair was fanned out across his pillow, and she was breathing softly, completely vulnerable and unguarded in his space. His bed.
Jarrod stood frozen, water dripping from his skin as he stared at her. The sight of her lying there, so still and quiet, triggered a violent flashback. It mirrored the haunting memories of loss that had plagued him for years, the paralyzing fear of someone he cared about slipping away into the dark. But then the image of her wearing another man’s jacket violently superimposed itself over his trauma. She was alive, she was here, and other men were looking at her.
The cold shower proved entirely, utterly useless. His desperate need to anchor her to him, to prove to himself and the world that she was alive and unequivocally his, surged forward. A dark, consuming wave of raw possessiveness obliterated his reason.
He crossed the room in three silent, predatory strides, stopping at the edge of the mattress.
He climbed onto the bed, his knees straddling her hips, his massive frame caging her completely.
He leaned down, pressing a hot, aggressive kiss to the exposed skin of her stomach. The touch made her gasp in her sleep.
Caroline’s eyes fluttered open, disoriented and confused by the sudden weight and heat pressing down on her.
Before she could speak, Jarrod captured her lips in a bruising, desperate kiss, his tongue invading her mouth instantly.
