Chapter 350:
She realized, with a sickening lurch in her stomach, that she had tied her wagon to a losing horse. A toxic, self-destructive one.
Melanie stormed back into the locker room, her face a mask of pure hatred. Her eyes immediately found Tammy.
“And you!” she spat, her voice venomous. “Why didn’t you say anything? You were supposed to back me up!”
Tammy flinched, but something inside her, worn down by years of Melanie’s constant cruelty and casual insults, finally snapped.
“Back you up?” Tammy asked, her voice quiet but shaking with a newfound resolve. “Back you up in what, Melanie? In mocking a woman whose mother just died?”

The direct accusation stunned Melanie into silence for a moment.
Tammy got to her feet, rubbing her arm where Caroline had shoved her. The spot was already starting to bruise.
“I followed you because I thought you were powerful,” Tammy said, her voice gaining strength with every word. “But you’re not powerful. You’re just cruel. And now,” she said, looking around the silent room, “you’re alone.”
Melanie’s expression shifted from anger to panicked disbelief. She tried to regain control, her tone shifting to a wheedling, manipulative sweetness. “Don’t be stupid, Tammy. We’re friends. We’re in this together.”
Tammy let out a short, bitter laugh. “No. You were in this. I was just your stupid, disposable sidekick.” She pointed to her bruised arm. “This? This is what I get for being your friend. I’m done.”
She walked to her locker, grabbed her purse, and started to walk out, not looking back.
“Where are you going?” Melanie called after her, a desperate edge to her voice. “You can’t just leave!”
Tammy stopped at the door and looked back at Melanie, her eyes filled not with anger, but with a weary pity.
“I’m going to find Caroline,” she said softly. “And I’m going to apologize.”
The statement was the final, killing blow to their toxic alliance.
Tammy walked out, leaving Melanie standing in the center of the locker room, completely and utterly alone. The silence of the room pressed in on her, no longer a weapon she could wield against others, but a stark reflection of her own isolation.
In the locker room, Melanie sank to the cold, tiled floor. Her body trembled with a rage so profound it felt like a physical illness. The humiliation, the isolation, the betrayal from every single person—it all coalesced into a single, burning thought: revenge.
“I will destroy her,” she whispered to the empty room, her voice a venomous hiss. “If it’s the last thing I do, I will burn her world to the ground.”
Meanwhile, in a quiet break room down the hall, Julian and Brenna sat with Caroline. Julian had pressed a cup of hot, sweet tea into her hands, and she was sipping it slowly, the warmth seeping into her cold fingers.
