Chapter 353:
Who was in there? Who would come to her father’s house in a vehicle like that?
Just as she reached for her phone, the front door of her house swung open.
A man stepped out. He was tall and imposing, dressed in a perfectly tailored suit that probably cost more than her car. His hair was silver at the temples, his face etched with lines of power and authority. He paused on the porch, his eyes scanning the street until they landed on her car.
He had been waiting for her.
Caroline’s breath caught in her throat. Every instinct screamed at her to drive away, to call someone, to do anything but what she did next.
She got out of the car.
The man walked down the porch steps, his movements slow and deliberate, as if approaching a frightened animal. He stopped at the edge of the lawn, his hands clasped in front of him.
“Caroline Thompson,” he said. It wasn’t a question. His voice was deep, controlled, and carried the weight of someone used to being obeyed. “My name is Donovan Sinclair. I need to speak with you about your father. Your biological father.”
The world tilted on its axis. The ground beneath Caroline’s feet seemed to dissolve. The sounds of the quiet street—a distant dog barking, the rustle of leaves—faded into a deafening roar in her ears.
Biological father.

The two words echoed, shattering the entire foundation of her life.
Her fingers went numb. The car keys she was clutching slipped from her grasp, clattering onto the pavement with a sharp, metallic sound that seemed impossibly loud in the sudden silence.
Donovan looked at the shattered young woman before him, his voice softer now, but still carrying the weight of command. “I know this is a shock. But it’s the truth. I am your biological father, and we have a great deal to discuss.”
His words were the final confirmation. It wasn’t a nightmare. It was real.
A wave of dizziness washed over her. She reached out a hand, her fingers fumbling for the car door to steady herself. She felt as if the solid ground of her entire existence had just been ripped out from under her.
Caroline stared at the stranger before her, her mind reeling, struggling to process the impossible words he had just spoken. Biological father. The man who had raised her—Walter Thompson, with his warm smile and gentle hands and unwavering love—was not her biological father. This man was.
“No,” she whispered, the word a ragged, desperate denial. “You’re lying.”
Donovan Sinclair’s expression flickered with something that might have been pain. “I assure you, I am not. I have proof. Documentation. But more than that, I have the truth. A truth your mother kept from you for over twenty years.”
