Morgan smiled. “Everyone in our circle knows your marriage to Mr. Everly was a contract arrangement. It wasn’t a real marriage, so in my eyes, you’re not a divorcée p>
Many people whispered behind her back that Amara had only married into the Everly family as a gesture to bring good fortune. In the three years of their marriage, Finnian had never even returned home, and they divorced soon after. It was likely they had never even consummated the marriage. How could a woman like that be considered divorced?
“Of course, even if it had been a real marriage, it wouldn’t matter,” Morgan continued.
“These days, it’s normal for people to get a divorce if they realize they’re not compatible. It’s just choosing a new path in life, nothing major. Personally, I don’t mind at all p>
Morgan’s eyes crinkled slightly as he smiled at Amara.
*He says all the right things*, Amara thought, *but isn’t it just because I’m beautiful p>
If she were merely average-looking, or even just above average, her divorce would surely be a point of contention.
But that was just being cynical and assuming the worst of him. Amara kept the thought to herself.
“You are a man of principle and vision, Mr. Bishop,” Amara said sincerely. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. Even if things don’t work out between us, I would be honored to be your friend p>
Morgan considered her words. Was this a polite rejection?
He didn’t think so. They had only just met, and he hadn’t made any missteps.
And while his looks and family background might be a step below her ex-husband, Finnian, the Bishop family was still one of Wye’s top tier prominent families, and his own abilities were formidable. He should still have a chance with her.
With that thought, Morgan relaxed and smiled. “The honor is all mine.” He then used the serving utensils to place some more food on her plate.
Just then, the restaurant doors opened and a group of people walked in. The staff
on either side of the entrance immediately bowed, signaling the importance of the new arrivals.
Hearing the synchronized greetings, many diners, including Amara, turned to look.
A single glance was all it took for her to freeze.
There were five people in the group, led by Finnian and Emma, with Liliana and her parents following behind them.
News of Finnian and Liliana’s engagement had already been
circulating. Seeing the five of them
dining together it didn’t take a
gentus to guess they were
discussing wedding plans.
Amara’s expression remained unchanged, but the fingers resting on her lap clenched into a fist.
Morgan had naturally spotted Finnian as well. He commented with interest, “I heard
Mr. Everly is getting married to Ms. Porter. Is that true p>
Amara nodded. “Yes, it’s true. The date has been set. Mr. Everly and Ms. Porter
dated in college. They’re rekindling an old flame p>
Deep down, Amara knew that saying
such things was just torturing
herself But she had to learn to
speak of Finnian and Liliana’s
relationship with the calm
detachment of an outsider.
If she couldn’t even manage that, she would never be able to move on from this
relationship and embrace her own life.
