These past few days, every time Liliana thought about Finnian’s feelings for
Amara, she just couldn’t get a decent night’s sleep. She had to pile on layers of concealer to hide the dark circles under her eyes.
As she settled into the car, her gaze turned steely.
Finnian must be enamored with Amara’s personality, she reasoned. Amara always wore a scarf to cover the scar on her face, so she looked fairly presentable on the outside.
But if Finnian were to see Amara’s scar, to witness her real, unsettling appearance, he’d surely be repulsed and would start to dislike her.
The problem was, Amara never took off her scarf. Rumor had it she even kept it on while eating and sleeping. How on earth could she get Amara to remove it?
Liliana pondered this, a shadow passing over her eyes.
A few days later, the film crew was slated for an outdoor shoot at the lakeside park downtown, just a half-hour’s drive from the studio lot.
That morning, there was a crucial scene to film-a lakeside confrontation between Keith and Liliana. Once the crew arrived, they immediately began unloading equipment, setting up the scene, and getting everyone into makeup.
A makeup tent was set up not far from the lake, where Liliana sat as the makeup artist worked on her.

“I’m still a bit scared.” Nora admitted.
“What’s there to be scared of?” Liliana snapped.
Nora, naturally timid, recoiled at Liliana’s words. Seeing this, Liliana softened her tone, “Don’t worry, it’s just a small thing. We’re not doing anything wrong, we’re not spreading lies or rumors, right p>

“Exactly, so get moving. We don’t have all day p>
Despite her fears, Nora had long been under Liliana’s thumb and dared not defy her. With a shaky resolve, she nodded and left the tent.
Liliana let the makeup artist fuss over her hair as she closed her eyes, mentally rehearsing the day’s plan. Confident there were no loose ends, she exhaled slowly.
Today was the day. If everything went as planned, her future would be paved with success and luxury. She repeated this mantra in her head.
Soon, the crew’s greetings of “Mr. Everly, Mr. Everly,” filled the air, and Liliana’s lips curled into a smile She counted down the seconds until she heard Finnian’s familiar footsteps.
“Are you feeling unwell?” Finnian asked, stopping by her side.
Earlier, Liliana had messaged him about the shoot, mentioning she felt under the weather and hoped he could be there for support. So here he was.

“Ama?” Finnian looked up, curious.
“Yeah, Amara,” the makeup artist clarified. “Her screen name’s Amarise, but I keep forgetting her real name p>
Finnian turned thoughtful, and Liliana shot the makeup artist a discreet glare before biting her lip. “Ms. Sullivan seems to be managing fine. She didn’t even take the day off p>
