Elysia nodded, taking a big forkful of her Caesar salad, closing her eyes as she savored the flavors.
Amara was about two months into her pregnancy. Many women experience quite strong symptoms at this stage, but she was one of the lucky ones, only feeling nauseous once or twice a week, with hardly any other issues.
Her belly was still flat, and she moved around just as easily as before. So far, she felt no different than she had before getting pregnant.
Today was no exception. After finishing their meal, she and Elysia went shopping. Three hours later, both were feeling a bit exhausted, and they decided to head home.
It was just past nine in the evening, and the autumn night was dark. Amara
carefully climbed the stairs, holding the railing for support. As she inserted her key into the lock, she was suddenly enveloped in a pair of strong arms.
Startled, she almost screamed, but before she could, she found herself spun around and pressed against the wooden door.
In the moonlight streaming through the hallway window, a familiar face came into view. The scream died in her throat as she recognized him.

Finnian looked down at her, the smell of whiskey heavy on his breath. Amara wrinkled her nose. “Have you been drinking p>

He towered over Amara, his broad shoulders easily enveloping her small frame. He rested his chin against her neck, nuzzling slightly, his lips brushing against her
ear.
Amara felt a shiver run through her, though her heart raced with apprehension. She pushed at his shoulders. “Finnian, you’ve had too much to drink. Let me take
you home p>

She brushed his hand away and silently led him to the living room settling him onto the couch before heading to the kitchen. She returned with a glass of cold water.
In one swift motion, she flung the water in his face.
Finnian blinked rapidly, water dripping from his handsome features, still sitting on the couch, staring up at her in shock.
With a thud, Amara set the glass down on the coffee table, her voice icy. “Finnian, are you sober now p>
His eyes slowly focused, and he stood up, wiping the water from his chin, looking at her with a sheepish smile.
“I’m sober now,” he admitted, his voice slow and deliberate.
