She swung the door shut with a determined click and continued, “Elysia doesn’t want to come out right now, so Mr. Hawke, please don’t go in. We have some time before the reception starts anyway p>
“As long as you don’t bother Elysia, everything else is none of my concern p>
Dorian was genuinely taken aback. He never expected Amara, usually so meek, to stand her ground like this.
His eyes darkened as he took a couple of steps forward, ready to push the door open by force.
Suddenly, a hand reached out and grabbed his wrist.
“Dorian, calm down. She needs some space right now, just let her be for a bit,” Finnian said, standing beside him.
Dorian turned, surprise etched across his face as he looked at Finnian.
Was he hearing this right? Finnian was actually trying to calm him down? Finnian was supposed to be on his side, so why was he stopping him? Then it hit him. He glanced sharply at Amara, suspicion dawning in his eyes.
Could it be that even after the divorce, Amara was still tangled with Mr. Kevin Everly, and Finnian was stepping in to help Kevin look after Amara? Was that why Finnian was upset with him for confronting Amara?
Dorian furrowed his brow, lowering his voice, “Finn, are you taking Amara’s side? Look at the time, if Elysia doesn’t start getting ready soon, she’ll be late p>
Even though he tried to keep his voice down, it was quiet enough that Amara heard him.
She replied, “So what if she’s late getting ready? Even if there’s only five or ten minutes left, Ely can still pull it together. It’s just a matter of how well p>
“Of course, Mr. Hawke, you think Elysia should look perfect to shine for the Hawke family, but don’t forget, once you invited Jessica, this wedding lost its sense of decorum anyway p>
“You want Ely to look like the belle of the ball to uplift the Hawke family’s image, but everyone can see the rot beneath the surface p>
Her words were sharp, and fury flashed in Dorian’s eyes, cold rage radiating from him.
If it weren’t for Amara’s connection to the Everly family and the fact that she was a woman, he might have lost his temper entirely.
Amara had been nervous earlier, but with Finnian by her side, she felt bolder.
“Does the truth hurt, Mr. Hawke? But it doesn’t make it any less true p>
“Reputation isn’t something others give you; it’s something you earn p>
“Mr. Hawke, I’ve said my piece. I’m going to rest now p>
With that, she opened the suite door, slipped inside, and clicked the lock behind her, retreating to the bedroom.
She pondered for a moment before shooting a text to Elysia: “Ely, the makeup artist is waiting outside.
When do you plan to come out? We might be running short on time p>
Elysia didn’t text back. Amara thought about calling but decided against it, choosing to let Elysia make her own decisions.
As time ticked past ten, then eleven, and still no word from Elysia, Dorian was
pounding on the door, and members of the Moon family were knocking too.
Amara’s phone buzzed incessantly, but she ignored it, opting instead to put on her headphones and bury herself in a book.
She had tried speaking to Elysia through the bedroom door earlier, but Elysia hadn’t responded.
While Amara was worried, she trusted that Elysia, strong and independent, had her reasons and would handle things her way. So Amara left her alone.
It wasn’t until eleven thirty, with half an hour left before the reception, that the knocking grew so loud she couldn’t ignore it anymore. Someone was even threatening to break down the door. Finally, Amara sighed, got up, and opened the suite door.
