Amara knew Elysia well enough to not press the issue. She just joked around a bit, and the two of them started heading out.

Since Elysia had been drinking, Amara planned to drop her off at home before heading back herself.

But as they were making their way to the underground parking garage, three unwelcome faces appeared: Finnian, Dorian, and Jessica.

Finnian and Dorian walked side by side at the front, with Jessica slightly behind, sticking close to Dorian.

Seeing them, Elysia’s expression turned icy, her gaze sharp. Amara frowned as well.

“Let’s take a different route, Ely,” Amara muttered under her breath, thinking “just our luck,” as she grabbed Elysia’s arm, ready to turn around.

Just then, Amara heard footsteps and felt someone grab her arm. It was Finnian.

Without a word, Finnian pulled her aside.

His grip was firm, leaving no room for argument, and Amara wasn’t pleased.

“Mr. Everly, what’s this about?” she asked coldly, rubbing her wrist where his grip had left a mark as they stopped behind a large pillar.

Seeing the red mark on her wrist, Finnian felt a pang of guilt and admiration for her delicate skin. “Sorry, it’s nothing,” he said.

If it was nothing, why had he approached her? Amara wasn’t amused.

Her feelings towards Finnian were complicated. Despite the pain he’d caused her, he’d also saved her life twice.

However, her feelings towards Dorian and Jessica were pure resentment. Seeing them together with Finnian only made her more distant.

Finnian seemed to understand why she was acting this way. In a low voice he explained, “Jessica’s a translator for the Everly Group. We were just taking her along for business talks today.” s

Finnian watched her profile.

Her side profile was soft and gentle, and even with her somber expression, she had an awkward kind of charm.

He resisted the urge to tease her and said, “If she bothers you, I can fire her.” Amara’s heart skipped a beat.

What was Finnian thinking? Jessica’s job had nothing to do with her.
