She finished her last sip of soy milk, finally letting out a relieved sigh. Setting her cup down, she said, “I’m full. I should be able to get discharged now, right? I really want to leave as soon as possible.”

She didn’t want to stay in the hospital any longer, and she definitely didn’t want to spend any more time with Finnian.

Finnian nodded. “The doctor said you can be discharged. I’ll go handle the paperwork.”

With those words, Finnian left the room to take care of the discharge process, leaving Amara waiting alone.

She’d actually wanted to take care of it herself, but when she tried to get up, Finnian had gently pressed her back down and said, “Just rest. I’ll take care of this. I’ve already spoken with the doctor.”

After saying that, he had walked away without waiting for her response.

Amara didn’t want to accept Finnian’s help, but with his long stride, he had already left the room before she could protest. Feeling somewhat helpless, she could do nothing but sit and wait for him to return.

Before long, Finnian came back, various documents in hand. “We can leave now,” he said, ready to escort Amara out.

At that moment, there was a knock at the door. Finnian went to answer it, but when he saw who was there, his expression instantly turned cold. “What are you doing here?” he demanded.

With his tall frame, Finnian blocked the entrance. Amara, curious, called out, “Who is it?”

Before Finnian could answer, Keith’s distinctive cold laugh sounded. “Why shouldn’t I be here? That’s an odd question, Mr. Everly. In fact, I was just about to ask why you’re here.”

Keith pushed past Finnian, striding confidently into the room. As soon as he saw Amara, his tone softened.

“I heard what happened from Elysia. How could you go through something like this and not tell me?” The reproach was clear in his voice.

Amara replied, “It wasn’t anything serious. As soon as I got to the hospital, I felt much better. Why bother you about it? You’ve been pretty busy these past couple of days, haven’t you?”

Keith shrugged, sitting down by the side of her bed. “It’s not like I couldn’t spare any time.” He glanced at her stomach and asked, “Does it still hurt?”

Amara was just about to answer, but Finnian walked over and interjected coldly, “Amara’s fine now. We’re just finishing her discharge paperwork.”

He stressed the word “we,” as if to hint at a closeness between himself and Amara.

Keith looked up at him with a sarcastic smile. “I’m surprised someone with your schedule, Mr. Everly, has so much time on his hands that he can personally see to Amara’s discharge isn’t this a bits beneath your pay grade?”

His tone made the dig clear, but Finnian seemed unbothered. “Work is hectic Finnjan replied in a calm tone but always make time for my wife and child. They’re what matter most, after all.”

Keith’s composure cracked for the first time in front of Finnian. Where did Finnian get the audacity to talk about a wife and child so matter-of-factly what wife and child?

“Mr. Everly has a wife? News to me,” Keith said, raising an eyebrow.

“Oh, that’s right. You almost got married a few days ago, but didn’t that fall through? Or am I misinformed-are you and Liliana still together?” He smiled with thinly veiled sarcasm.

Still, Finnian didn’t lose his cool. “The misunderstanding between Liliana and me was cleared up. My child is in Amara’s belly, and I intend to take care of both of them.”

Keith, of course, understood exactly what Finnian was saying. He let out a dry laugh. “What child? The one in Amara’s belly isn’t yours—at least not officially.”

“Mr. Everly, you have no standing with Amara. Don’t get ahead of yourself.”
