Chapter 834
Jenny had only given him a rough overview over the phone, leaving out the specifics, so Finnian needed to ask.
Liliana spoke in a frail voice. “It was an equipment failure. The stunt harness was years old, and the cables were fraying. While I was suspended in the air, the wire suddenly snapped, and I fell.”
“Because it was an action sequence, the prop team had scattered some artificial rocks on the ground to make the scene look authentic.”
“Even though they were fake, the edges were still sharp. I landed flat on my chest and stomach, and it tore a massive gash into me…”
Liliana’s eyes welled with tears as she spoke. She gently pulled back the blanket, revealing the thick layers of gauze wrapped around her torso.
Blood seeped through the white bandages, painting a gruesome picture of the severity of the injury. Finnian took one look before averting his gaze. “How deep is the cut? Have you taken any painkillers?”
“The rock sliced half an inch into my flesh,” Liliana whispered. “Thank God it missed my organs, but it needed stitches. It hurts so much, Finnian. And it looks
horrifying…”
Liliana gestured a length of about eight inches, her voice thick with sorrow. “The gash is about this long. It perfectly overlaps the old scar.”
“That scar was already hideous enough, and now it’s going to be even worse. Finnian, I might really end up unwanted. You used to say you’d take responsibility for me, but now that you don’t want me, no one else ever will…”
As she spoke, tears streamed down her pale cheeks. She covered her face, sobbing softly.
Her cries weren’t loud, but her trembling shoulders painted a picture of absolute heartbreak. Finnian’s brow furrowed deeply.
He had seen that scar on Liliana before. Starting just below her stomach and ending an inch under her navel, it was roughly the thickness of a pinky finger-twisted and terrifying to look at.
The scar was undeniably ugly. Because of it, Liliana hadn’t worn crop tops or bikinis in years. She even deliberately turned down acting roles that required her to wear swimwear.
Finnian knew all of this. He had repaid his debt to her in countless ways, but the physical and emotional damage from that incident was something he could never truly erase.
He kept his voice steady. “You don’t need to worry about that. You’re beautiful and successful. There will be plenty of men who admire you and there will absolutely be someone who doesn’t care about a scar. If you want to settle down, I can introduce you to someone suitable.”
Liliana froze. What had she just heard? Finnian wanted to set her up with another man?
The crushing reality hit her hard-Finnian really had changed.
In the past, playing the victim was all it took to soften his demeanor.
Now, his heart felt as impenetrable as stone. The creeping terror that she might
never win him back threatened to consume her.
But Liliana was a calculating woman. She wasn’t about to surrender just like that.
Forcing herself to remain
composed, she took a moment to formulate her response. Then, she lifted her tear-streaked face to look at him “Finnian, I know you have powerful connections, and course, you could introduce me to great men. But this scar was left for another man. It’s like a brand. What normal guy could ever accept that?”
“Besides, Finnian, I only want you. I don’t want anyone else…”
Liliana gently bit her lower lip, gazing up at him with utter vulnerability.
She was naturally a very alluring woman, usually balancing elegance with a subtle edge of power. Such raw fragility was rare for her, which made this display all the more pitiful to witness.
