Chapter 878
The library was a place of tranquility. Rattled by Finnian’s post from the day before, she spent the entire afternoon reading, finally allowing her racing thoughts to settle. In the evening, she grabbed a bite to eat before driving back.
As her car neared the villa, she spotted a man standing in front of her gate from a distance. Her heart skipped a beat.
She didn’t even have to guess who it was.
Who else would show up at her door besides Finnian?
In the past, seeing him waiting for her would have sparked immense anger.
But after learning the truth yesterday, the burning resentment had faded. She wasn’t furious seeing him, though she was still reluctant to face him.
But under the current circumstances, he was practically camped out on her doorstep. It wasn’t like she could just avoid him-was she supposed to abandon her own house?
She parked the car and walked over. “Mr. Everly, why are you here?”
Finnian stared at her. He had been standing there for hours. As it was the dead of winter, the biting winds battered against him, piercing through even his robust constitution.
His nose was tinged red, giving him an unexpectedly pitiful look.
He watched her for a moment before slowly asking, “Where were you? Why didn’t you answer my calls or reply to my texts?”
Initially, he had called her repeatedly and bombarded her with messages, asking where she was and demanding to see her.
When she never responded, he stopped trying and decided to just wait outside her gate.
“I was at the library,” Amara replied. “My phone was on silent. I didn’t see your calls.”
It was an obvious lie. Even if her phone was muted, there was no way she hadn’t checked it all afternoon. She simply hadn’t wanted to see him.
But Finnian didn’t press the issue. He asked, “Did you see the post I made on Twitter yesterday?”
Amara’s heart pounded against her ribs. She knew he had come all this way just to talk about this.
She clasped her hands together, her fingers tightening involuntarily—a telltale sign of her nervousness.
“I saw it,” she said cautiously. “Is there something you want to say?”
Finnian studied her quietly.
Amara kept her head lowered, concealing any trace of emotion. But she had always been a deeply
composed person. Unless she
allowed it, no one could deci net?
true feelings-a trait they both
ber
surprisingly shared.
He shifted slightly and began, “A long time ago, Liliana saved my life. If she hadn’t been there that day, a falling object would have crushed my skull. Even if I survived, I would have been paralyzed…”
Finnian spoke slowly, his steady narration pulling the hands of time backward.
“…In that split second of danger, she shoved me out of the way. She avoided a head injury, but the debris smashed into her chest, leaving a permanent, hideous scar right across her torso.”
“She has always cared deeply about her appearance. Being left with such an ugly scar caused her to break down completely. She demanded that I take responsibility for her and confessed her feelings to me so started dating.”
“Truthfully, I didn’t have any feelings for her. But since we were together, I felt obligated to be responsible. I treated her incredibly well, catering to her every demand during that time.”
“Later on, Keyin found out about our
relationship. He strongly
disapproved of her career and her
chfarácter, and he pressured us to break@p. I refused. Yet, a while later, Liliana initiated the breakup herself, and we went our separate ways.”
