Chapter 946
Seeing the sheer terror on Amara’s face slowly fade into relief, a smirk tugged at the corners of Keith’s lips. He loved seeing her fret over him.
She obviously cared deeply about him. Even if that care was currently strictly platonic, he was confident that with enough time and effort, she would eventually fall for him.
Edith, on the other hand, was practically vibrating with rage. She had been disgusted the second Amara walked in, but watching the girl feign concern while her son practically swooned over the attention was going to make her pop a blood vessel.
What was wrong with him? Was he blind? Couldn’t he see she had waltzed in right alongside Finnian?
Finnian was her ex-husband! And the woman was currently pregnant with his child! The two of them were obviously still deeply entangled.
Seeing them walk in shoulder-to-shoulder should have been the final wake-up call Keith needed to see her true colors and drop her for good.
Instead, the absolute idiot was beaming at her like a lovesick fool.
His pathetic display of affection made her blood boil.
She could no longer hold back and leveled a furious finger at Keith. “Have you completely lost your mind? Did you forget everything I told you? Are you really still pining over her?”
She snapped her gaze to Amara, her voice dripping with venom. “I held my tongue earlier, but I am done playing nice. I want to know why you risked your life for this woman!”
“What the hell does she mean to you that you would throw yourself in the line of fire? You nearly destroyed your face! Do you have any concept of reality?!”
“I’d understand if you saved someone who actually mattered, but look at her! An unmarried woman parading around pregnant, trailing her ex-husband behind her like a lost puppy…”
Edith’s voice climbed higher and louder with every vicious insult, until she was practically screaming.
Keith’s expression instantly darkened into a hard scowl.
“Mom, that’s enough. My face isn’t
ruined! Did you not just hear the
doctor? It’s going to scar temporarily, but a simple laser procedure will clear it right up be completely flawless again. There absolutely no reason for you to be this hysterical.”
“And why are you attacking her? She didn’t do anything wrong! Stop insulting her. If you want to yell at someone, yell at me.”
Keith was now incredibly suspicious that his mother had already unloaded on Amara while he was unconscious.
Knowing he couldn’t interrogate her about it directly in front of everyone, he swallowed his rising temper and forcefully defended his friend.
His defense only threw gasoline on Edith’s fire. The fact that he was still shielding
the girl after everything that had happened pushed her over the edge.
She pointed erratically between her son and Amara, her face red with uncontrollable rage. She opened her mouth to scream, but Keith cut her off instantly. “Mom, just get out. Dad, please take her outside.”
“I know I terrified you today, and I’m sorry for that. I will grovel as much as you want
later, okay? We can talk about this when everyone is calm. Just leave.”
He desperately wanted to avoid a screaming match in front of Amara. She already felt guilty enough about the tension between him and his parents and was constantly pushing him to make peace with them. Not to mention, Finnian was standing right there, observing the entire trainwreck.
Nathan remained completely stone-faced, though he shot his son a dangerously sharp glare.
He was firmly on his wife’s side. He was just as furious over Keith’s reckless stunt and harbored intense disdain for both Amara and Finnian.
