Chapter 1121
“Come back here! You crazy bitch, you don’t fight fair! Come back and save me!” the man screamed.
Through the heavy, rolling fog, his vision was completely obscured. He could only hear Natalie’s voice, unable to see her at all. But the wail of an approaching ambulance gave him a glimmer of hope that rescue was on the way.
Natalie stood by the riverbank, gazing into the murky night. Snow drifted down from the hazy sky. It was the second night of the New Year, and fireworks bloomed in the heavy overcast, casting a surreal, dreamlike glow. The beauty of the display did nothing to lift her spirits; tears shimmered in her eyes.
She took a deep breath. This was the work of Joanna and her new lover.
Sebastian had faked his death to escape, and now she was the next target.
A soft chuckle escaped Natalie’s lips, a sound laced with anticipation and a fierce desire to survive.
This time, she wasn’t going to die so easily.
The police and paramedics arrived shortly after. Natalie helpfully pointed toward the sinking car in the freezing river, and rescue workers quickly dove into the water.
Ten minutes later, the man was hauled onto the shore.
Natalie walked over to him. Supported by the paramedics, he was shivering violently. Barely conscious, his eyes snapped wide open the moment he saw her. “You!” he shrieked. “You absolute psycho! I told you the truth! Why did you still toss me into the river? You malicious witch—no wonder people put a hit out on you!” Natalie scoffed, rolling her eyes. “I kindly called an ambulance for you, and you’re still cursing me? A vicious jerk like you deserves to drown.”
She flashed him an innocently provocative blink. “With my slight build, why on earth would I jump into a freezing river to save a guy who was just trying to kill me?”
Her gaze practically screamed: Come and get me, if you have the guts.
The man froze, so furious he wanted to lunge at her. But the searing pain wracking his body completely drained his strength; he could barely stand without help.
Natalie turned to a nearby police officer. “Officer, he tried to run me over but ended up driving his own car into the river. I was nice enough to call 911 for him, and he’s still cursing at me.”
Hearing the word “police,” the man’s head whipped around, finally noticing the officers standing nearby.
He burst into tears. “You should have just let me drown! Attempted murder? You’re sending me to prison! And my two hundred thousand dollars is gone!”
“That was my wedding fund! My fiancée is going to leave me without that money! You ruined my relationship—you’ll never be happy either!”
Natalie stared at him in utter
disbelief. You really think you’d find happiness by marrying a woman. with blood money? Do you even deserve to be happy? Go rot in a jail* cettand enjoy your misery
The man gasped, nearly choking on his own rage.
Meanwhile, Luna handed the dashcam footage to the police. After giving their statements, she and Natalie headed home.
On the other side of town, Sean received a call from the bodyguards.
By the time he hung up, he and Sebastian had already arrived in the underground garage of the apartment building.
Sean turned to Sebastian. “Boss, someone made another move against her tonight. But they’re fine. Natalie and Luna made it home safely.”
A murderous gleam flashed in Sebastian’s eyes. He looked at Sean. “It was Joanna and Maxwell. I need you to dig into Maxwell’s overseas company immediately. Once we confirm his ties to the M Syndicate we’ll strike.”
“Understood,” Sean replied.
A chilling smile curved Sebastian’s lips as he handed Sean a small pill bottle.
Sean glanced at it. Libido suppressants.
He blinked. “Boss, what is this?”
