Ignoring the pain, Colin immediately stood up and rushed home.
The moment he walked through the door, he bellowed, “Dad, Mom, has money been embezzled from the company?”
Wendy happened to be home that evening and was greeted by Colin’s frantic shouts.
Nathan had been looking worse and worse lately, his face sallow and gaunt.
At his son’s question, a flicker of panic crossed his eyes.
“Colin, what are you talking about?” he snapped. “You haven’t been home for half a year, and the moment you return, you start spouting nonsense.”
Wendy frowned at him. What did he know?
Could he have found out that Joanna embezzled two hundred million from her company?
Sarah was already in custody. The police had taken her in for questioning today; she was an accomplice in the embezzlement.
But she was refusing to reveal where the money went.
Wendy, however, had her ways of making people talk.
“Dad, Natalie is vicious! I lost a street race with some friends today and they were holding me for a million-dollar ransom. She showed up, but instead of saving me, she spent fifty million on a piece of land nobody wanted!”
“Dad, where did she get fifty million? Where else could she get that kind of money except by embezzling it from our company?”
Nathan was also stunned. Natalie had fifty million?
Wendy stared coldly at Colin. “Do you have proof?”
“Mom, what more proof do I need? The money in her hands is the proof!”
“Hah! Colin, accusations like that have legal consequences. I cut off your allowance, and when you couldn’t find anyone else to bail out, you went crawling to Natale, the very person you’ve always butfied.”
“You’ve got more nerve than I thought. It’s been almost a year since she cut ties with us. How could you have the audacity to call her for help?”
At the mention of this, Colin grew angry. “Mom, why did you cut off my allowance out
of the blue? I don’t have any savings. How am I supposed to live? I still have races to compete in.”
Wendy took a deep breath, feigning sadness. “The company’s situation is getting worse. We’re now two hundred million in debt. And just today, we discovered that Sarah embezzled another two hundred million.”
“From now on, I can no longer afford your allowances. You’re all in your twenties, adults now. You’ll have to earn your own living expenses.”
“The company has two hundred million in external debt. If we can’t recover that money, I’ll have to sell off all our assets.”
She looked at Nathan. “Nathan, your company is currently valued at around one hundred million. I’m going to have to sell it to cover our losses.”
“What? Wendy, what right do you have to sell my company? Didn’t you say you were a brilliant
businesswoman? Now the company is on the verge of collapse with a two hundred million dollar debt and you want to use my company to plug the hole? No way.”
Nathan’s ugly, grasping nature was instantly on full display.
It was over. Wendy knew the money had been moved.
Wendy smirked. Was this all it took to make him lose his composure?
The real show was just getting started.
With a mournful expression, Wendy said, “Darling, we’re husband and wife. Are you going to be like all those other men who abandon their partners when disaster strikes?”
“If we sell your company, we can recover one hundred million. If we can secure another investment, the company’s problems will be solved.”
“Honey, you know that even though you gave me that company, it represents my dignity. How could live without it? Because of that
company, I’ve been happy all these years, no longer afraid of people saying I live off you.”
Wendy smiled. “Darling, you’ve been living off me for years while putting on a tough
act. Are you really still afraid of what people might say?”
“You… you… Wendy, so you finally said what you really think? Even though I
married into your family, I’ve earned my own money these past few years. Don’t be so cruel with your words.”
