lan frowned when he saw Newman. What was he doing here?
“lan, I heard your grandmother is sick. Need any help? I came all this way just to see you and her.”
The man claimed to be offering help, but his face was dripping with sarcasm, betraying any charitable intentions.
lan’s expression turned cold. “I don’t need your help.”
“Come on, lan. Even if you don’t care about your own grandmother, you shouldn’t refuse a kind offer. If she doesn’t get treatment soon, she’s not going to make it. As far as I know, she’s the only family you have left in this world. Are you really going to stand by and watch her die?”
“Oh? And what are you going to help me with, seeing as you’re flat broke yourself?” lan asked, raising an eyebrow. Newman’s appearance here was definitely not a coincidence.
The two were rivals at school, constantly bickering over trivial things, and it was always Newman who started it.
lan was better than him, and Newman couldn’t stand it, always looking for a chance to take him down a notch.
Looking at him now, he was no longer dressed in cheap knock-offs but in brand- name clothes. He must have joined a company and come here to flaunt it.
Newman smirked, one hand stuffed in his pocket, his gaze a mixture of contempt and arrogance. “Ian, you haven’t been to school lately, so you probably haven’t heard my good news. My entire team was hired by a very well-known company. We’re talking a six-figure salary. I’m completely out of your league now.”
lan found his display utterly pathetic. Showing off over something so minor was just childish.
“Hey! lan, what are you laughing at? What’s with that look? Who do you think you’re looking down on?” Newman’s voice rose. He hated lan’s confident demeanor more than anything.
lan’s presence was commanding as he scoffed, “You came all the way here just to show off about this?”
But he was different. Natalie had told him to keep studying and get a good education while he was young.
“Of course. My starting line is your finish line. Naturally, I had to share this little update with you, just to make you a little jealous.”
Newman had always been arrogant. Though poor, he saw himself as a man of integrity who had gotten where he was on his own merit.
Since his circumstances were similar to lan’s, he felt compelled to flaunt his success, proving he had made it big sooner.

afford to keep you.”
“Miss, I’m much better than lan. Why don’t you sponsor me instead? I promise I’ll
