Chapter 1137
Joanna collapsed against the back of the front seat, completely overwhelmed by frustration. She buried her face in her hands and burst into tears.
Horace glanced in the rearview mirror, his heart aching as he watched her cry.
He was the assistant she had personally molded. Without Joanna, he wouldn’t be where he was today. She had elevated him from a broke college student to a man pulling in millions of dollars a year.
Whenever he was in a bind, all he had to do was ask, and she would make his problems disappear. To him, Joanna was both his savior and the love of his life.
“Are you alright?” he asked gently.
At the sound of his voice, Joanna choked back her sobs. She looked up, her face glistening with tears. Horace’s heart raced as he took in her vulnerable state. In that fragile moment, she was breathtaking.
Joanna suddenly recalled the fragmented visions she’d had—the dreams where Horace was the one who stood by her side until the very end.
He was unconditionally loyal, deeply in love with her, and never once abandoned her.
She shook her head and forced a watery smile. “I’m okay, Horace. Thank god I still have you with me. Let’s go see Wendy.”
She never expected that Wendy, the woman who had pampered her most, would be the one to drive a knife into her back.
Everything Wendy had done had flawlessly bypassed Joanna’s radar.
She couldn’t stomach the fact that she had been outsmarted by Wendy.
She dialed her number, genuinely surprised when the line connected. “Wendy. We need to meet,” Joanna demanded.
Wendy agreed without hesitation. “Fine. Come to the Baiyi Club. I’ll be waiting for you.”
“Done.”
Wendy knew exactly why Joanna was calling. She arrived at the Baiyi Club early to set the stage. She let out a cold laugh. “Joanna, you’re going to love the gift I’ve prepared for you. I’ve been setting this up for nearly a year. Today, the entire world is going to see exactly what you are.”
Joanna had cost her her biological daughter. It was time to strip Joanna of absolutely everything.
Wendy glanced at the hidden
camera positioned in the corner of the room and smiled. “Natalie, today, I’m going to claim you properly. You were never my adopted child. You are my own flesh and blood.”
She had been so incredibly blind to think her own daughter was just some girl from the countryside.
Coincidentally, today was also the premiere of Joanna’s highly anticipated movie. Wendy was about to have her blacklisted from the entertainment industry forever. Not long after Wendy took her seat, a sharp knock echoed through the suite. She stood up and pulled the door open.
Horace immediately tried to wheel Joanna inside.
Wendy blocked his path. “What do you think you’re doing?” Horace demanded darkly.
Wendy met his glare with ice. “You stay out here. Don’t worry, I’m not going to touch her We live in a civilized society, and have no intention of physically harming her. After all, I’m not a monster like she is.”
Fury flared in Horace’s eyes. “You-“
“Horace, it’s fine,” Joanna interrupted smoothly. “Wait for me outside.”
Reluctantly, he released his grip on the wheelchair.
Wendy subtly gestured down the hall. Two massive bodyguards quietly stepped into position just out of Horace’s line of sight.
Wendy pulled Joanna inside and locked the door behind them.
The bodyguards stepped in front of the door, completely sealing Horace out.
Wendy wheeled Joanna right next to the sofa before taking a seat opposite her.
Joanna was perfectly positioned, her face angled directly toward the hidden livestream camera.
Seeing that they were entirely alone, Joanna didn’t bother holding back. Her temper exploded instantly.
“Wendy, you’re a piece of work, you
els
know that? You actually set me up? You spoiled me for over two decatles what would it have cost you to just hand over your assets?”
“I just wanted what was yours. If you had signed it over earlier, I wouldn’t have had
to play games with you.”
