Chapter 1193
At that moment, it dawned on Nathan that the events from back then were far from simple.
The old man had claimed that Nathan drunkenly let slip the truth about Joanna and Wendy’s relationship, which prompted his demands.
He had been blackout drunk that night and had no idea what he had babbled about. But with the evidence shoved in his face, he knew he couldn’t let Wendy find out the truth.
That was why he had orchestrated the entire chain of events that followed. In the beginning, Natalie was completely under their control. She didn’t fight back, she didn’t complain, and she let them walk all over her. They were just waiting for Joanna’s birthday banquet to kick Natalie out, and then they were going to deal with his four sons.
Because everything seemed to be going perfectly to plan, he grew overconfident. He couldn’t have cared less whether his four sons lived or died.
He was sick of being called a freeloader who lived off his wife. He wanted to be the master of his own house and seize control of Wendy’s billion-dollar empire.
But then everything went sideways.
Natalie became uncontrollable. She began to fight back, and her counterattacks were so fierce he had no way to parry them.
“Natalie, what is your exact relationship with Mr. Griffith Sr.? Why did he specifically demand you as his grandson’s wife?”
Nathan finally managed to connect the dots. It seemed every single disaster had started with Natalie.
He glared fiercely at Natalie’s stunningly beautiful face, utterly bewildered. It wasn’t that he hadn’t considered it, but he had never been able to make sense of it.
And with everything else blowing up in his face, he had simply stopped looking into it.
Natalie was just as in the dark. What had actually happened behind the scenes? She shook her head. “I have no idea. I only met Mr. Griffith Sr. after I came back.”
It was the truth; she really had met the old man after returning.
Nathan grew even more suspicious. What massive secret was he missing?
Had that old bastard Griffith played him?
Natalie shared his suspicions. What hidden agenda was being kept from her?
Honestly, ever since her biological mother revealed her true identity, she suspected a deeper conspiracy was at play.
And after finding out the DNA test had been swapped twice, she had simply been biding her time.
Another question popped into
Natalie’s mind. “Mr. Scott, I
suspected before that you weren my biological father. I had two DNA tests done, and both times, the results were tampered with by you.”
The moment the words left her mouth, Natalie realized it was an incredibly foolish question.
If Nathan had swapped the tests and discovered she wasn’t his real daughter, someone with his vile character would have used that to blackmail Wendy immediately.
His grand scheme wouldn’t have failed so spectacularly.
Sure enough, a second later, Nathan replied coldly, “Natalie, if I had
known from the start that you
weren’t my biological daughter do you really think any of you would have won?”
“Heh…” Natalie let out a low chuckle. She raised her head, her gaze completely devoid of emotion. True. I realized it was a stupid question as soon as I asked.”
“I know everything I need to know now.”
“From here on out, you’re going to pay dearly for everything you’ve done.”
“You…” In that moment, Nathan finally understood the sheer totality of his defeat.
Wendy and Natalie had been waiting for this exact day.
Overwhelmed by sheer fury and crushing agitation, his eyes rolled back into his head, and he collapsed heavily onto the floor in a dead faint.
“Ah!” Sophia screamed. As cold-hearted as she could be, she still harbored some affection for Nathan; they had been childhood sweethearts, after all.
Seeing him pass out, she scrambled over to his side.
