Chapter 679
Livia:
I felt guilty too, especially after Daniel said all those things to me.
He had never treated me that way before, nor had he ever looked at me with such disrespect.
I knew it was all my fault, but what was I supposed to do?
For the first time in my life, I had fallen in love with someone.
I knew I was wrong, yet I just couldn’t stop myself.
At the time, only one thought kept running through my mind.
What if the woman he had married wasn’t worthy of him?
Otherwise, how could she lose him like that?
And not just him, but even her own daughter.
I don’t know what came over me then, but I convinced myself that she couldn’t be a good mother.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have lost them. In my mind, she didn’t deserve them if she couldn’t hold on to them.
I took Gina home with me.
By then, one thing was certain.
I couldn’t let Gina and him meet each other.
Otherwise, it would create a huge problem.
“You’re home already? I thought you’d be out for hours.”
My mother was speaking cheerfully when she appeared and noticed Gina with me.
Gina’s grip tightened around my hand, and I realized whatever she had been through had made her afraid of the world, or at least of new people.
“It’s all right. This is my mother.”
Then I turned to my mom. “Mom, this is Gina.”
My introduction was deliberately vague.
My mother silently studied Gina, confusion evident on her face.
“Hello, kid,” my mother greeted her. “Come over here and tell me who you are.”
She sat down on the couch in the living room and gestured for Gina to come to her.
I gave Gina a small nod, and she walked over to my mother.
My mother smiled as she gently touched her cheek.
“She’s so pretty. Who is she?” my mother asked.
At that moment, I realized I had to tell her the truth.
An hour later, after she had given, Gina a bath and tucked her into bed, I sat down with her in the living room and told her about the monster and how it had brought both the Stranger and Gina.
However, I didn’t tell her about the connection between them.
“You-you hid all of this from me?”
My mother’s reaction stemmed from the countless times she had warned me never
to associate with supernatural beings.
She always said that if we were human, we should stay among our own kind.
“I couldn’t ignore it, Mother. They were left there, and the monster didn’t even hurt
me. They were obviously brought here for me to take care of them,” I said.
My mother began shaking as she clutched her shirt in her fist, as though she were trying to hold her heart together.
“You don’t get it, Livia. You don’t get it,” she said in a panic.
She closed her eyes, and tears streamed down her cheeks.
“Then I want to know why you’re so afraid of supernatural beings. What happened to you in the werewolf world that made you leave it, come here, and tell me to stay away from werewolves, even when you know the truth about me?”
I was trembling by the time I finished speaking, and the moment I mentioned my truth, my mother’s eyes widened.
She hurried toward me and grabbed my shoulders before immediately reaching for my neck, checking for the pendant.
“Don’t worry. I’m still wearing the pendant,” I said sharply, pulling her hands away.
“But you have to tell me the truth. Otherwise, I’ll take it off right now.”
I tightened my fist around the pendant as I made the demand.
We had lived in fear for far too long, and I needed answers.
I needed to know why we were so afraid of werewolves.
My mother stared at me for a long moment before slowly sinking back onto the couch.
She looked out the window and pulled her knees to her chest, wrapping her arms around them.
“I was called a whore by the rogue community because I was different,” my mother began.
The words alone made my heart sink.
“Only because I was beautiful. Men wanted me. Alphas would come to me, offering one-night stands, but I refused them all.
“My mother kept me hidden deep in
the woods, away from everyone’s eyes. But men like that always found me. Werewolf men, gammas, omegas, they searched for me And when they found me, they attacked me, trying to take my virginity. But I survived. I ran after realizing they had killed my mother. I thought that was the end for me, but then I reached the mountains.”
She swallowed hard and buried her face in her hands.
“And that is when I met him. My mate.”
Her voice broke, and tears filled my eyes too.
“Was he my father?” I asked, placing a hand on her knee.
She slowly lowered her hands from her face and gave me a small nod.
