Chapter 738
Elgin:
“What did I fucking do? How the fuck do you think slapping a council leader is okay?” my mother screamed, tears streaming down her face.
Watching my mother being humiliated was something I was not going to tolerate.
Rosetta was acting completely differently from what she had promised.
“Your son has been harassing me, and you did nothing but encourage him.”
Rosetta’s words were met with the loudest gasps yet, so loud that I could no longer hear my own heartbeat.
“What?” I asked, keeping my voice gentle.
Rosetta turned to me, fury blazing in her eyes.
“You and Graham are exactly alike. Two peas in a pod. What did you think, huh? That by blackmailing a single woman, a widow like me, you’d be able to force me to marry you?”
Rosetta screamed, sounding nothing like the woman I thought I knew.
“This isn’t true. You know that,” I said to Rosetta, trying to approach her.
The council members immediately stepped in front of me, pointing at me and warning me not to come any closer.
“Oh, fuck you all. She’s lying. I have her text messages. She happily told me she supported me,” I said as I reached into my pocket for my phone.
But it wasn’t there.
I looked around, then at my mother, before my eyes landed on Mathew in the distance.
He looked me straight in the eye and answered with a smirk.
Everything around me suddenly went cold.
“Wait. Wait a minute. Rosetta, did I do something wrong? Why are you saying all this?” I asked, trying to ap ach her once
re.
She immediately raised her hand, signaling the warriors and the council members to keep me away from her.
“He has been harassing me ever since he visited my pack. His mother knew exactly what he was doing to me. He tried to drag me into bed,” she said, pausing to take a few deep breaths. “And his mother is just as evil as he is.”
She pointed at my mother.
My mother looked at me, then back at Rosetta.
I had the horrible feeling that I had been played, that I had trusted the wrong person,
and my mother had been dragged into it as well.
Even so, I had to recover quickly.
“Then tell them why my daughter is with you,” I said, pointing at Elara.
“You brought her here. You told me to manipulate her, to threaten her into siding with you, or you’d ruin my life. You said no one would come to save me from your claws. So I pretended to be on your side just long enough to get everyone here, so they could finally hear the truth.”
Rosetta placed a hand on her chest and began to cry dramatically.
I had never expected this from her. I had never seen this side of her before.
“Baby, did I upset you somehow?” I asked, softening my tone.
I couldn’t understand what had happened.
How had she gone from loving me so much to being so cold and unhinged toward me?
I took a deep breath and straightened my posture.
“She can’t treat a council leader like that. You all know my mother is a
do
council leader. She would d
something like that. It’s just her word against Qurs,” I said
Everyone looked conflicted until their eyes shifted to Rosetta.
She slowly nodded, silently warning me that if this was what I wanted, then this was
what I would get.
“You want proof?” she asked immediately.
My heart skipped a beat.
She looked completely confident.
“Well then, proof is exactly what you’ll get,” she said, taking a few deep breaths.
Then she did something on her phone, and everyone else’s phone lit up except mine.
I heard the notification go off, but it did not come from my pocket.
It came from Mathew.
Oh.
I finally understood.
If I couldn’t trust Silver, how the fuck had I trusted a man her father hired?
I had trusted the wrong people.
I still had no idea what everyone was
watching on their phones until one of the warriors turned up the
volume.
Then I realized that if Mathew had
recorded my climax with Kaylee et
had definitely recorded more than that.
My own voice echoed from the phone.
sw no
“You know, Graham and I did so much fucked-up shit, but I got away with all of it.”
I turned toward the screen.
There I was, lying naked beside Kaylee in bed, smoking a cigarette while she smiled
at me.
“I did too,” Kaylee mumbled, making me lower my eyes to look at her.
“I killed Baxter,” she giggled, burying her face against my chest.
Watching it on the screen, it was painfully obvious.
I didn’t fucking care.
I had been so intoxicated by power that I did not even look ashamed.
That was a terrible look for me.
