Chapter 756
Nina:
He started walking downstairs as casually as ever.
I’d seen plenty of maids and warriors come inside with me, but the moment Sawyer began the confrontation, it was as though everyone scattered into rooms or hid in whatever corner of the mansion they could find.
It was just me, my father, and the man I was so terrified of that I wanted to dig my own grave and bury myself so deep underground that I’d never have to hear him walking around again.
“Sawyer,” I whispered, immediately ducking behind the table.
As if that would save me.
“I’m so glad you’re awake,” I said, forcing a smile, my heart fluttering inside my chest like a butterfly trapped in a cage.
My father, on the other hand, stayed by the door, desperately trying to force it open.
“Please! Please, somebody open the door!” my father shouted, not even trying to hide the fact that he’d been caught.
Sawyer looked at my father.
Then he continued walking toward me, a smirk so dangerous curling on his lips that my knees began to wobble.
“Come on. Come over here. Aren’t you going to greet your husband with a warm hug?” Sawyer coaxed as he walked towards me from the staircase.
He lifted his hand and beckoned me closer with two fingers.
He looked like a devil luring in its victim.
“Of-of course I’m happy to see yo-u,” I replied.
But I kept my fists tightly clenched at my sides, refusing to take a single step closer to him.
Sawyer stopped on the other side of the table and tilted his head.
Then he opened his arms to me.
“Then come on. Give me a hug, Nina. Or should I say my wife?”
He already knew.
He knew everything.
Of course. He’d checked the emails.
I should have fucking deleted everything.
But no.
I’d gotten so cocky.
I never thought this day would come.
I mean, how the fuck was he awake?
When did he wake up?
All those thoughts raced through my mind, and all I could think about was one name.
That fucking doctor.
Livia.
She had to be the problem because she was the one who had the keys to the herbs used to treat the other patients.
How had she figured out which medicine to give him?
“Are you not happy?”
Sawyer clicked his tongue and pouted as he slowly lowered his hands.
Then he turned to look at my father.
I noticed a quiet, mocking chuckle rise from deep within him as he watched my father struggle.
“Oh, come on. Don’t do that.”
Sawyer turned to look at me.
This time, though, there was a smirk on his lips. His body was angled ever so slightly towards my father.
“You don’t want to save his life?” he asked, pointing his thumb over his shoulder at my father.
My heart skipped a beat.
Even my father stopped pounding on the door, turned around, and looked at me.
“I mean, you know, when somebody doesn’t listen to me, I punish the people they love,” Sawyer remarked, a mock frown creasing his forehead as he pouted
I just didn’t understand what he was doing here.
How the fuck was he awake?
“See? I asked her for a hug. Didn’t
you teach her to be a good wife t
Sawyer said to my father, who only shifted his eyes while keeping his body pressed against the door.
“Do it!” my father yelled at me. “What are you waiting for? Do it!” he screamed again.
“It seems she’s not even a good daughter,” Sawyer remarked when I didn’t move. “What the fuck are you waiting for? Do it!” my father screamed at the top of his lungs, making my body jolt.
The next thing I knew, I was running towards Sawyer from the other side of the table.
He opened his arms, and the moment I reached him, he wrapped them around me.
For a second, I remembered what it felt like to be in his arms, and it had once been an amazing feeling.
But I knew this time he wasn’t holding me because he wanted to bring me pleasure. He was hurting me.
The way he tightened his arms around me made me feel as though my bones were about to crack.
He was causing me pain.
I started crying against his chest, my hands pushing against him as I struggled to free myself, to break out of his arms, but he wouldn’t let go.
Instead, he held me even tighter.
“What did you think would happen when I wake up, huh? Or did you think never wake up?” he asked:
stowly me from he
ly rocking me from side to side the crushing force of his embrace making every bone in my body ache.
“Huh? Do you know what happened because of you?” he muttered.
“My wife remained in the werewolf land, and I have no clue what she’s dealing with
or who she ended up marrying because of your fucking email.”
As he shouted, my knees gave out, but I couldn’t collapse because he never let go.
