Chapter 759
Baxter:
A Few Days Ago:
Flashback:
“Right now, you’re going to tell me exactly what’s going on,” I demanded as Daniel dragged me toward a basement.
Earlier, we had spoken to Livia.
She told us a few things that immediately made Daniel cautious.
The call ended abruptly, and we concluded that she had either been arrested or something had happened to her.
We couldn’t even call her back because her phone was switched off.
Daniel had rushed me out of his apartment and brought me deep into the woods, to the basement where he and Livia used to conduct their research in private.
To be honest, I didn’t want to come, but he told me this was the only way I’d ever be reunited with my daughter, Gina.
“Okay, listen. I—” Daniel paused, cracking his knuckles.
“What?” I demanded.
“Look, from everything Livia told me, I’ve figured a few things out. But you might want to sit down first,” he said, pointing to a stool that was far too small for my fucking ass.
“Tell me. What the fuck do you know?” I demanded.
He realized I wasn’t joking anymore.
Taking a deep breath, he gave a small nod, as though encouraging himself to finally tell me the truth.
“It seems like—” He paused again, scratching the back of his neck. “It seems like your wife is also President Sawyer’s wife.”
The moment those words left his mouth, I went completely numb.
Earlier, when my werewolf had awakened, he hadn’t remembered much.
His memories were slowly returning, or at least I believed they would.
For now, though, I had silenced him because the human world didn’t allow werewolves.
End Of Flashback.
I woke up gasping, remembering a small piece of a conversation I’d had with Daniel.
I was sitting in the basement, wondering when he would return.
“Madeline,” I whispered her name to myself, and my wolf stirred awake.
I immediately rushed to the small bag Daniel had packed for me after he found out my wolf had woken up too.
“Don’t do that,” my wolf snapped, stopping me from taking another dose of wolfsbane to silence him.
“Listen, I’ll talk to you later. Right now, this world is not where you should be
showing yourself,” I told my wolf, trying to silence him before anybody found out we
were hiding in the basement bunker beneath a cabin.
I wasn’t sure how he was going to react.
What if he transformed?
What if somebody deep in the woods found out about us?
As all those thoughts raced through my mind, my wolf muttered, “Nobody’s going to find us. And since when did you become so scared of people? Stop acting like a fucking loser.”
His words left me stunned.
“Were you always this mean and harsh to me?” I asked in confusion.
“Isn’t a person’s wolf supposed to be their best friend?”
I put the medicine down, setting the wolfsbane injection back on the table.
“Yes, indeed. But you don’t just abandon your best friend for a woman. A woman who cheats on you, leaves you for other men, and steals your children from you.”
As he said those words, only one name came to mind.
“Are you talking about Madeline?” I asked.
“Yes, indeed, I am,” he hissed. “How many times are you going to repeat the same mistake over and over her you
aga Baxter it’s always ver
always betray your friends for her.”
I felt as though my heart dropped into my chest when I heard something that could
have been connected to my past.
“What do you know? What do you know about Madeline?” I mumbled and he grunted.
Apparently, instead of asking about him, I had once again asked about her.
“Well, for starters, hi. I’m Axe. I’m your wolf,” he hissed, making me close my eyes
as I realised I probably shouldn’t have pissed him off.
He already seemed upset with me.
“I’m so sorry. It’s just that I have a daughter and I want to know whatever I can to—”
I paused when my wolf grunted.
“I know. You don’t have one child. You have a son too. But you never got to see him. You never met him We don’t even know your son’s. name because, well, let’s just
tbe
honest, the name the l.n?
your lips ruined your life.”
Axe hissed as the memory of my wife cheating on me surfaced.
I sat down on the chair, staring at the floor.
“Do you have my memories?” I asked.
If he spoke with such certainty, he had to remember everything.
“I’m blocking them for your sake,” he muttered.
“But I don’t want them blocked. Didn’t you just say I’m not supposed to be weak? So fucking tell me.”
I snapped, annoyed by how he was treating me.
On one hand, he expected me not to let my emotions control me.
On the other hand, he was keeping even the most basic parts of my life from me because he thought I would get emotional.
“You don’t need those memories. I’m here with you now. I’ll tell you everything, step by step,” he replied, leaving me in a position where I was entirely dependent on him.
