Chapter 780
Baxter:
“Honestly, that’s not a bad idea,” Daniel remarked.
I remained silent.
Behind us, Livia also agreed with the guards that it was a good idea.
“And since you’re an ex-alpha who has only just arrived here, you should know how to contact the werewolves and what to say to them. We want to restore our treaty with them. It seems that after President Sawyer went into a coma for a year, our relationship with them fell apart,” one of the guards explained.
I remained silent, my eyes fixed on Sawyer.
“Yeah, all right. That sounds good. Send me back to the world where monsters like me belong.”
Sawyer agreed immediately.
The room fell silent.
I bet everyone was wondering what he was thinking.
But I knew.
He was a very evil man.
“Everyone, leave. I want to speak with him alone for a while.”
The moment I said it, it was as though I was the one leading them.
Everyone obeyed without question.
They all walked away immediately, leaving only Sawyer and me behind.
“And you’re scared,” he remarked, almost as if he had been waiting for us to be alone.
I remained silent, letting him speak.
“Because once I’m back in the werewolf world, I’ll be closer to the one person you wanted me to stay away from,” he murmured, as though he had read my thoughts.
He wasn’t lying.
It was the truth.
That was why I wasn’t willing to send him away immediately.
Because my wife, Madeline, was still the only one in the werewolf land.
I had no idea what this man would do once he got there.
There was already so much running through my mind.
What had happened on the mountaintop that made the monster scoop me up and bring me here?
At least I knew one thing from Livia.
A monster had brought me here.
“Well, thank you so much for confirming my suspicions,” I finally said, watching his smirk begin to fade.
“We can always keep you here forever, chained up.”
As I spoke, his jaw tightened.
It was obvious he was beginning to regret revealing so much in front of me.
With that, I turned and began to walk away.
“You can never keep me here! The people won’t be happy with it!” he shouted.
“In other words, if a monster in the human world wants to leave, he can. Just like a human can come to the human world!”
He kept shouting, but I didn’t care.
I simply walked away and met Daniel and Livia in the hallway.
“So, are we sending him to the werewolf land?” Livia asked and I shook my head.
“We need to keep that to ourselves for now,” I replied.
As I stepped outside, I was immediately met by a huge crowd.
“Baxter for president! Baxter for president!”
Just as expected.
The moment these people found out there was a monster among them, they
decided to put another powerful person against it.
I quickly got into the car because I had too many thoughts swirling through my head.
‘What is your obsession with
Madeline? Just let her be. He’s heret
husband. If he wants to go ther
and
be with her, he can.
My wolf grunted inside my head, but I ignored him.
That was too much.
It was one thing for him to hate her, but it was another for him to try to change my mind.
If I didn’t want to do something, I wasn’t going to do it.
As soon as Livia got into the car, her phone started ringing.
“So, what are we going to do now?” Daniel asked as he drove, while my attention shifted back to Livia.
“What? Again?”
The words left her mouth so loudly that Daniel and I immediately looked back at her.
Daniel slowed the car, but Livia gestured for him to keep driving.
“To the mountain top,” she instructed.
The moment I heard those words, my heart started pounding.
“Why the mountain top?” Daniel asked.
It was the first time he had spoken to her in a while.
“Our man said the monster brought in a car this time, and there are people inside it.”
The moment she said that, Daniel and I looked at each other.
Our hearts pounded in our chests.
“Baxter, we have to send you back to the hotel. You need to stay there I’ve already booked a room for you
if
go there alone,” she insisted, making
me frown.
“I’ve arranged a meeting for you and Gina.”
The moment she added that, my body relaxed.
I was much happier to go back to the hotel than to find out who had been brought to
the mountain top this time.
They dropped me off at the hotel.
When I arrived, they told me Gina had waited for her father for several hours before finally falling asleep.
I entered the room and saw her, a little girl sleeping peacefully.
Livia had told me that Gina had arrived months ago and hadn’t spoken until I arrived.
The thought broke my heart.
How long must that little girl have been waiting for me?
For her mother?
I had no idea what had happened for a monster to take such a young child that
night.
I didn’t sleep.
I just sat in the chair, watching her.
The way she turned over.
The way she scratched her scalp in her sleep.
She was my daughter.
My Gina.
The next morning, before she even woke up, I received a call from Livia that was
going to change everything.
“What is it?” I asked, immediately stepping out of the room so the ringing wouldn’t wake Gina.
“Baxter, it looks like our world is about to change again.”
There was something deeply unsettling in the way she said those words.
“What is it?” asked, sitting down on the soft couch in the living room, realizing it had been a long time since I’d done something sex ordinary.
“The monster brought your daughter, Elara.”
I froze.
“And the last thing Elara said was that she wanted her mother-Madeline.”
My heart skipped a beat.
I was stunned.
