Chapter 785
Ron:
Being reunited with Yuvonne brought me the kind of happiness I thought I would never experience.
For the next few hours, we just kept hugging and kissing each other.
Finally, we had to move upstairs because I remembered Lady Eugenia was still poking around.
“Okay, should I intervene now?” I heard Byron’s voice.
It seemed I’d been so lost in the moment that I’d completely forgotten about everyone else around me.
I finally pulled away from Yuvonne and looked at Byron, giving him a smile.
“Wow, you look well,” I remarked.
He tilted his head and gave me a knowing look.
“Did you know about it?” I asked, pointing at Yuvonne.
“Actually, I found out in the middle of everything. I was shocked too, but I couldn’t be
with her because, you know, I was afraid she might forget about you.”
Just as I’d expected from Byron, he opened his mouth and started talking rubbish.
“Ah, you weren’t so flirtatious and cocky when you were almost dying,” I commented.
This time, though, I wasn’t annoyed. I was just teasing him, playing along.
That grumpy man was completely gone.
“Okay, guys, we need to leave. Remember, Madeline is still out there, and she’s very angry,” Nala cut in, reminding us that we still had a lot to take care of.
“And we have to arrest Lady Eugenia. She’s probably running around on the second
or third floor,” I added, my face tightening as I watched Byron frown.
It seemed he didn’t know who else was in the mansion besides Yuvonne.
“Come on, let’s go. I’ll fill you in on everything later,” Nala told Byron as we all headed to the ground floor.
When we got there, Rosetta had already come inside.
This time, I looked behind her and realized everyone was leaving.
Her warriors were clearing the ground floor.
The whole show was over.
The minute Rosetta looked up, it was as if she realized she couldn’t hide from us anymore.
“So you were hiding that woman with you, weren’t you?” I demanded, taking a step forward.
However, Yuvonne grabbed my hand, but before she could pull me back, Byron rushed over and stood in front of her.
“Wait, Ron,” he urged, looking at me. “Let her explain first.”
It was like he was defending her without a second thought.
I turned to Yuvonne, then to Nala.
Knowing Byron, the only woman he would ever defend was Madeline.
But Rosetta?
Was he doing that because Rosetta looked remarkably similar to Madeline?
I mean, I’d noticed the resemblance. I didn’t know why no one else had mentioned
it.
Maybe they had. I wasn’t sure.
It just felt odd.
They weren’t exact copies of each other, but there were definite similarities, especially in the way they moved and talked.
“Okay, Byron, how about you explain it for me?” I said in a taunting tone.
Byron rolled his shoulders back and turned to face Rosetta.
Instead of looking confused, Rosetta confidently folded her arms across her chest and met his gaze.
“Okay, fine. Do you have anything to say?” Byron prompted in a surprisingly soft, cheeky tone as he stepped aside and gestured toward us.
I wasn’t exactly an expert on relationships. I’d only ever had one serious one.
Still, it seemed Byron had developed
another crush on a woman who was
destined to become yet another forbidden fruit for him because of her legacy, only for him to end up dead if he married her.
“If you all sit down, I’ll explain everything,” Rosetta said calmly. “But first, I need to
make sure the woman in question is arrested.”
We all exchanged confused looks.
So she was going to have Lady Eugenia arrested?
If that was the case, why had she let us stay in her home in the first place?
Still, we were willing to give her the benefit of the doubt because I was extremely happy today.
Without another word, she casually headed upstairs.
Byron immediately followed her.
He shot us a quick glance before hurrying after her, almost as if he wasn’t one of us anymore, but her man instead.
None of us complained, though.
We were all just genuinely happy.
It was a great victory.
“By the way,” Nala said, turning to me, “where’s Elara? Do you think Madeline took
off with her?”
I nodded.
“Maybe she left before that.
Otherwise, if Madeline had come in and seen Lady Eugenia Lady. Eugenia would be dead by now,” I’ replied calmly.
My heartbeat quickened when frantic footsteps echoed down the stairs.
Rosetta reappeared.
“What is going on?” I asked, watching her hurry down with a panicked expression.
“She’s gone,” Rosetta replied.
We all exchanged glances.
“And so is—” She paused, taking several deep, heavy breaths. “Elara and Bodhi.”
The moment she said those words,
it felt as though we’d been struck by another devastating piece of news just when we thought we could finally be happy.
