Chapter 821
Livia:
“Is she okay?” I asked my mother as I watched Madeline go through a plethora of
emotions.
She was sitting on the couch, staring into the distance.
She hadn’t moved a muscle since.
She wouldn’t even blink, just letting her tears fall freely.
At one point, I wondered if she was sleeping with her eyes open.
“She will be. She’s more powerful and stronger than both of us,” my mother said, hinting at the fact that Madeline had been through shit that we hadn’t.
And I understood where her anger was coming from.
While I had lived a rather peaceful life, the only real hurdle was my mother having to remarry a man to secure our safety when people were hovering around the two of us, and running away from that man.
But after that, everything went smoothly.
We didn’t really go through a lot. My mother worked daily jobs, but working hard was never a problem for us.
Our family, our bloodline, we were pretty hard workers.
But Madeline, she went through shit.
So it was understandable that, in the beginning, she had a lot of complaints.
My mother had to sit her down and tell her everything from the start.
From the rogue life to the curse and the separation.
“And people want me to go and help those people with their sickness?” Madeline finally let out a little whimper and buried her face in her hands.
I immediately rushed to her side, wrapping my arm around her.
This was the first time I felt as if I were the elder sister as I was born minutes before her.
I mean, Madeline had always been the strongest one.
I’d heard stories about her hard work and everything.
Although I’d never met her in person, I had seen her pictures.
Now I got to meet her and know her, and honestly, she was just wonderful.
So for me to be the one calming her down, it felt weird.
Madeline immediately hugged me back.
As we both cried, our mother came and sat beside Madeline, placing a hand on her thigh.
Madeline broke the hug and turned to our mother.
“And all this time, I thought my mother left me and ran away,” she let out another cry.
The fact that my mother had been called a whore suddenly made sense.
Whoever had stolen Madeline and my sisters from us wanted to attach something deeply taboo to our family so that even if my sisters wanted to search for us, they would be stopped by the council leaders.
Sadly, whores were never given any respect.
Prostitution was banned in the werewolf world. It was only allowed among rogues, and they weren’t treated well either.
So they used that lie to make my mother taboo.
“But you said that you thought your father killed your children,” my mother said to Madeline, who nodded.
“Well, I mean, I already know he didn’t. Gina is alive. Baxter is alive. They would have died if they had been left in the werewolf world,” Madeline admitted.
And it seemed like this was something she had been holding back, like she hadn’t wanted to give her father that credit for a very long time, until now.
“I feel bad for dad. He should not be cursed like that,” Madeline let out a cry before I watched her gasp.
“What is it?” I asked, watching her eyes widen in shock.
She quickly wiped her cheeks and turned to our mother.
“Back in the werewolf world, I have some friends, and I found this weird liquid that was made with herbs. Or it was a powder. I don’t really remember. I was going through a lot of stress.” Madeline paused.Ölt said that it was for the monster, to kill the monster.”
As soon as she said that, both my mother and I gasped.
“Someone is trying to kill him?” my mother asked.
A little whimper tore from her, and she clutched her chest with both hands.
“No, I mean, I’m pretty sure we can stop it,” Madeline said, her eyes starting to turn watery. “They are gonna kill him.”
“But don’t you think it would be a mercy killing?” My mother’s lips quivered as she said those words.
I could only imagine how much pressure she had to put herself under to even say that out loud because I knew how desperately my mother wanted to meet my father just once again.
“No.” Madeline shook her head. “There is no mercy killing for our family. After what we have been through, we deserve a happy ending, not a mercy killing.”
,
As expected of Madeline, she was different from us. She didn’t just settle for simple solutions.
“Then what are you gonna do? If you speak of the monster, humans will turn against your The werewolves already have an agenda against you. They want to use your special powers. So what are we gonna do?”
As my mother was speaking, I heard a knock on the door.
“Were you expecting someone?” I asked my mother, watching Madeline turn toward the door as well.
“No.” My mother shook her head. “I’ll go see who it is.”
The way my mother got up and walked toward the door just felt wrong, like someone outside was extremely powerful.
Madeline immediately got up and squared up, her hands clenched at her sides.
