Chapter 827
Baxter:
“You fucking shut me down for hours,” my wolf complained while I quickly took a shower and got ready to leave the room.
“Well, it’s not like I stayed awake either. I passed out too,” I grunted back at him.
“What are we gonna do now?” my wolf asked.
“The way Kaylee reacted made me realize that whatever you said was the truth,” I said, buttoning up my shirt.
“Really? So, what are we gonna do now?” he asked again.
I took a deep breath and nodded, having already made my decision about what I was going to do.
“Even if I don’t remember anything, I made promises to that woman. I promised her I would protect her. She’s suffered enough. And at one point, I loved her. So I’m gonna protect her even now,” I said determinedly, referring to Kaylee.
“Do you think you’ll be able to go against Madeline?”
Axe’s concerns were valid. If Madeline had kept someone in the basement, she would try to keep her there.
But I wouldn’t let that happen. Not after finding out the truth.
“Well, Madeline will have to listen to me, okay?” I snapped at him. “She can’t do whatever she wants. I’m the president here. I make the rules. And I will not let someone abuse someone else just because of their jealousy.”
As soon as I said that, even my wolf went silent. He realized he shouldn’t cross me.
I walked out, and there she was, sitting in the living room.
The minute I mentioned Kaylee, she looked shocked.
“She thought I would never find out,” I told my wolf, grunting as Madeline sucked in a sharp breath.
“Well, that’s because her husband mistreated me. That’s why I don’t want her out.”
That was the excuse she gave, which was pretty lame, to be honest. Neither my wolf nor I was convinced.
“Well, that doesn’t give you the right to put her in restraints. So, with that being said, you will have to set her free,” I demanded, watching tears start to gather in Madeline’s eyes.
“So that you can continue your affair?”
The minute Madeline said it, my wolf stirred inside me.
“What did she just say?” my wolf questioned, sounding shocked.
“What? Isn’t that what you told me? Why are you acting so shocked when she’s confirming it?” I asked my wolf, trying to gather more information, but he went silent.
“Axe, is there anything else I need to know? Are you two lying to me?” I asked him, referring to Madeline and him.
“No, no, no. It’s just that- yeah, I was
shocked that she admitted it That she knew about it That this is why she kept Kaylee in the basement.'”
My wolf finally came through.

I bet he was enjoying reading my thoughts because we were on the same page
now.
“Anyway, I’m gonna bring her upstairs. And I’ll be the one making decisions from
now on,” I warned Madeline before turning my back on her.
I didn’t care how many excuses she gave me. This was just wrong.
Even my wolf couldn’t argue with me.
I reached the basement, opened the door, and walked downstairs.
Well, the minute I stepped into the room, the woman lifted her head, and it was as if
she was once again in shock.
She had screamed when she’d seen me before too.
She’d admitted that we’d run away together, that she’d gotten pregnant, that her children had died, and that afterward, she couldn’t eveno conceive again.
All of those things were running through my mind.

her that I meant no harm

This time, when I came face-to-face
with
calm I immediately raised my hands
“No! How are you alive?” she screamed, once again pointing at me. “You must be a ghost. You’re a ghost. Oh my God, you’ve come to haunt me.”
She hugged herself, crying loudly.
“Wait, did you hear that?” my wolf asked me. “Why would she say we’ve come to haunt her?”
My wolf snapped inside me, trying to make me focus on that one little thing she’d said.
“Will you fucking shut the fuck up? She needs us. She’s scared,” I said to my wolf. “Yeah, but did you hear that one little slip-up? What does she mean by haunt us?” my wolf continued to pester me, making me roll my eyes.
“I’m not here to haunt you. Why would I haunt the woman I love?”
The minute I said it, Kaylee stopped crying, looked at me, and then scrunched her nose.
“What? What is going on? You never loved me,” she said. “You hated me. If anything, you would come to kill me, to take revenge.”
Then she started crawling backward toward the corner of the basement, hugging herself.
