Chapter 844

Baxter:

My wolf was starting to wake up, and I was definitely going to let him stay awake for a little while so he could watch some of Daniel and Madeline’s interactions.

By the time he was fully conscious, I would probably already be alone in my room.

“Has he woken up yet?” Madeline asked as she entered the kitchen while I was looking for a glass.

“No, not yet,” I responded.

“Are you okay?” she asked, reaching around me from behind and hugging me.

It felt so good when her hands rested on my chest and she pressed her face against my back.

“I am,” I said, placing my hands over hers and running them gently along her arms to her elbows.

“Why are you here?” she asked, hinting at the fact that I could have simply asked a maid to bring me a glass.

“Well, I could tell you’d follow me,” I replied, taking one of her hands from my chest and bringing it to my lips to kiss it.

I remembered the way she had looked at me when I was speaking with her.

It seemed like she had some kind of urge, mine had too.

Then she pulled her hands away as I turned around to face her.

My hands wrapped around her tiny waist while she wrapped her arms around my neck.

“When your mother turns into a monster, you do know she’ll eat the first person she sees, right? She’ll be really hungry in her monster form,” she commented.

The fear in her eyes told me she was scared that my mother would eat me instead of anyone else because of how vindictive she was.

I stared at her face, then glanced toward my bedroom, which was visible straight through the kitchen doorway.

“I have the right person to feed her,” I commented, watching Madeline tilt her head.

“Who is it?” she asked.

I pulled her closer until the tips of our noses touched, then smirked.

“The woman who liked feeding me to the monster.”

The minute I said that, Madeline’s eyes widened.

She snapped her head toward the doorway as well, then nodded.

“Good choice,” she said, gently tapping my chest.

As she began to walk away, I felt my wolf starting to stir awake.

So I had to change my thoughts and everything I was doing.

“Are they gone yet?” Axe asked with a yawn, referring to the werewolves.

“Not yet. They be heading to their rooms in a few minutes. So I don’t think I’ll put you to sleep for another hour, because if Ron comes out of his room for a jog or a night walk after that and I have to join him, I’ll need you to be fully asleep Right now your scent is still very faint, I explained to Axe, hoping he understood that I didn’t like putting him to sleep either.

It was just that these annoying friends of Madeline’s had come over, and unlike ordinary werewolves, that meant more interactions with them were likely.

And I was annoyed with them because I didn’t have my memories, but it seemed they didn’t like Kaylee.

So I wasn’t supposed to like them either.

Why would I like them if they didn’t respect her?

“Anyway, what’s going on? Do they really not like her?”

As expected, Axe was already reading my thoughts.

“Yeah. They didn’t even want to meet her,” I said as I walked out of the kitchen.

“Why would that be? Is it because of your affair with her?” Axe questioned.

I shrugged as I stepped closer to Ron.

“Okay, hush now,” I told my wolf. “You shouldn’t wake up completely.

You know he’ll smell you ch

We’ll only stand here with him for five minutes before I leave and put you back to sleep, okay?”

I reached Ron just as a warrior came over to show him some files.

I only paid closer attention when my wolf suddenly mentioned something.

“Well, look at your right-hand freak,” he said, referring to Daniel.

I slowly looked over at him.

My eyes narrowed when I noticed the way he was staring at Madeline while holding

a glass of wine.

“That’s strange,” I commented.

Then Daniel walked over to Madeline, and the way he bent down to whisper something in her ear felt a little too intimate.

“Why is your right-hand man hovering around our mate like she’s some kind of cupcake?”

My wolf had drawn my attention to something I’d already begun noticing moments earlier.

“What have you noticed?”

Once again, my wolf had read my thoughts before asking the question.

“He’s been looking at her all day, sneaking in chances to talk to her,” I said.

I excused myself from Ron and the warrior, then moved closer to the doorway where Daniel and Madeline were talking.

My wolf and I listened silently, and I didn’t even know what I was feeling.

They were flirting.

They were fucking flirting.
