Chapter 845
Baxter:
“Would you look at that?” my wolf hissed. “I told you, Madeline is-Does she not remember that she’s still married to us?”
My wolf’s voice grew harsher as I stepped away from the doorway and headed into the bedroom.
I could tell he was waking up more fully, and I didn’t want his scent around the other werewolves.
Once I stepped inside my bedroom, I groaned inwardly and let my wolf vent his anger because nobody could smell us in there.
Nobody except Kaylee, who was sitting on the bed using her phone.
Seeing her reminded me of something.
How could I be angry with Madeline when I had another woman in my bedroom too?
“What? Are you crazy? That’s different,” my wolf snapped at me.
“No. Tell me, how is it different? She literally told us she was free to pursue someone else too,” I reminded him.
“I’m so glad you’re here. The people outside really don’t like me,” Kaylee said, moving toward me as if to hug me.
I stepped back, and a single gesture from me reminded her why I didn’t want her touching me.
I felt guilty for betraying her, and I didn’t want to take advantage of her anymore.
Not until I married her and gave her a respectable place in my life.
In the human world, a mistress was treated even worse.
“Oh my goodness, you and your guilt over every woman,” my wolf snapped.
This was the same wolf who had been the first to remind me of what I’d done to Kaylee.
“Excuse me.”
While Kaylee and I were facing each other and I was about to ask her how her day had been, there was a knock on the door.
Yuvonne stepped inside, making me move farther away so she wouldn’t smell anything on me.
That reminded me that I needed to take the medicine quickly.
“Do you need something?” I asked her.
“Yeah, do you have a charger for my phone? I’m really sorry. I guess I left mine in the werewolf land.”
She spoke hastily, looking apologetic, but when her eyes moved toward Kaylee, I watched a harsh expression form on her face.
“Oh, so you’re hiding here?” Yuvonne remarked directly to Kaylee.
“Oh, that’s Kaylee. And Kaylee, that’s Yuvonne,” I said, introducing them.
“Oh, trust me, we’ve met.”
There was something odd about the way Yuvonne said it. Her voice was filled with
sarcasm.
Of course it was. Kaylee was dating her adopted sister’s husband.
“Right,” I muttered, scratching my temple as I moved even farther away from
Yuvonne and pretended to busy myself pouring a drink.
“If you don’t mind, can I check the drawers myself?” Yuvonne asked.
I gestured for her to go ahead.
As she walked over to the dressing table, she slowed down, making me raise an eyebrow as I watched their interaction.
“Aren’t you tired of chasing after
al
men? I mean, I heard that after Graham, it was Elgin Then yougot exposed pretty badly for using him, and now it’s Baxter?” Yuvonne said.
I shook my head at the way they were all slut-shaming her.
“Slut-shaming her? Do you even hear what she just said? She’s literally saying Kaylee traps men. Even Elgin. So you’re not the first one And apparently, the order was Graham, then Elgin, then you. Where exactly do you and her supposed past fit into all of that?”
I didn’t know what my wolf was talking about, so I shut him out instead of
responding.
“Well, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Kaylee replied.
“See? Kaylee doesn’t even know,” I told my wolf.
He scoffed at me.
“Of course she wouldn’t know. You always act innocent, even when you’re dragging
comatose men to the mountain top so a monster can eat them.”
As Yuvonne said those words, Kaylee gasped and looked toward me.
I felt so bad for her.
They were throwing every kind of accusation at her just because they wanted to punish her for being with me now.
I was pretty sure Madeline must have told Yuvonne that I intended to marry Kaylee.
“Do you hear yourself? Better yet, did you hear what Yuvonne just said?” my wolf snapped at me.
“Baxter, since when did you become so dense?” he hissed.
“Yeah, I heard everything. Of course she hates her,” I replied, thinking that if Madeline could put Kaylee in th basement, Yuvonne throwing
accusations at her was nothing
compared to that.
“Well, it’s not like Madeline does that to everyone. When was the last time Madeline
punished someone without a reason?”
My wolf’s words made me grunt inwardly.
“Since when did you start defending her?” I snapped at him, remembering the way
she had already been flirting with Daniel.
“You know, I think we should start investigating Kaylee.”
My wolf’s words stunned me.
