Chapter 862
Baxter:
After hearing everything from my wolf, I felt both bad and guilty.
I could tell Lena understood the assignment because she started pacing away.
Axe didn’t follow her this time. He looked miserable. He had revealed all his secrets to her.
I could only imagine how he felt at that moment, probably thinking she saw him as weak and was now walking away from him.
And she really was walking away.
All those thoughts circled through Axe’s mind as he lowered his head.
“I’m sorry, Baxter. I lied to you. Because of my lie, you ended up with someone who wanted to kill you,” he apologized.
I felt his eyes begin to water.
“It’s just that I had gotten so lonely. I didn’t want you to be the one I lost. And I truly never stopped loving Madeline. I just knew that her love for us was so strong, and ours for her was so strong, that she could come between us.”
He sniffled and rubbed at his eye with one paw before lifting his head.
We watched Lena disappear behind the tree, circling around it.
“But how was I supposed to know I’d introduce you to a deadly woman? I was afraid
of losing you, yet I handed you over to the very person who almost made me lose you completely.”
He was still speaking when Madeline appeared from around the tree in her human form, wearing a white silk dress.
She had transitioned back.
It was safe to say that both my wolf and I wondered why.
Madeline took a few steps toward Axe, then knelt beside him and gently ran her fingers through his fur.
“Axe, you think he hates you? You think he doesn’t like you?” Madeline asked.
I felt Axe immediately move closer to her, wanting her fingers deeper in his fur. She scratched gently through his coat, and he gradually relaxed beneath her touch. “That’s not true,” she said, gently lifting his muzzle and cupping either side of his neck in her hands, continuing to massage him. “You know, when he lost you-“
She slipped one hand beneath his muzzle while the other stroked the top of his head.
His ears slowly lowered because of her touch.
“Baxter lost himself when he lost you,” she continued. “You know, those were the worst times. When I found out he had lost you, I realized why he didn’t feel like the same Baxter as before. There wasn’t a single moment when he didn’t think about you.”
Madeline’s eyes began to fill with tears as she remembered those days, and mine did too.
If only.
I started remembering them as well.
Ever since the transition, more memories had begun returning to me, mainly
because I now had access to my wolf’s thoughts.
“He was destroyed without you,” she continued.
My wolf immediately placed his front paws on her lap, trying to get closer, and she wrapped her arms tightly around him.
“He’s nothing without you, Axe. You better believe that. I had no idea, and neither did he when you said he held
back your full potential d

My wolf let out a few soft huffs as he settled comfortably in her arms.
“And I’m really sorry. We will never leave you behind again. You hear me?” Madeline murmured, leaning down to kiss his forehead.
My wolf nuzzled against her neck and cheek, making her giggle.
“Stop!” she laughed, dropping onto her hands as he playfully tried to lick her cheek.
Then my wolf finally let me transition back.
We stepped away and went behind the tree where our clothes had been left.
Once the transition was complete, I started getting dressed and spoke to my wolf.
“You don’t have to explain anything
about Kaylee to me. I know she is a bitch. We were only trying to make you realize you were in the wrong! told him while buttoning my shirt.
“I understand now. Madeline would never cheat on us.”
The way he said it was full of love.
“Huh? One lick on her cheek and you’re already forgetting about me? How about
trusting me a little more?” I joked and my wolf grunted.
“I love you, man,” he whispered, making me smile.
“What did you mean when you said I was keeping you from reaching your full strength? And why can’t I access your thoughts about it?” I asked.
My wolf groaned quietly inside me.
“I’m not sure myself. I just keep getting these flashes from the past, and I have this feeling deep inside. that
He paused. “But it doesn’t
matter anymore.” fo FindNovel.net
My wolf dismissed the thought completely.
Madeline stood behind the tree, biting her bottom lip as she watched me get dressed.
“She’s so naughty,” my wolf commented.
“What is he saying?” Madeline asked in a seductive tone.
“He’s calling you naughty,” I replied.
Madeline gave a playful little shimmy of her shoulders.
Once I was dressed, I placed my hands on her waist, pulled her closer, and kissed
her.
“Well, now that that’s out of the way, we have to deal with Nina, and then Kaylee,” I said.
My wolf understood that the entire situation with Kaylee had only been about using
her for the sacrifice, and he was completely on board with it.
In fact, he seemed almost too happy about the idea.
