Chapter 124
The man sighed, helpless. “I’m just worried Ana might get startled again.”
Anastasia immediately fell silent.
Her husband might not be as terrifying as the rumors made him out to be, but she knew his true nature better than anyone. He could be… well, a little ruthless, if she was honest.
Seeing her agree so obediently, Harrison’s heart softened completely. The rıghtful source is.net
It wasn’t until dinnertime that Anastasia finally emerged from her room.
The staff cast discreet glances at the radiant new Mrs. Lancaster, each one quickly lowering their eyes, careful to show nothing but respect. Anyone with half a brain could see that she was now the apple of Mr. Harrison Lancaster’s eye-no one in their right mind would dare cross her. That’d be suicide.
After dinner, it was time for Harrison’s routine health check, but Anastasia noticed Thomas was nowhere to be seen.
Her curiosity piqued, she quietly asked Logan, “Where’s Thomas?”
Logan looked at her, his gaze lingering for a moment before he answered tactfully, “He did something Mr. Lancaster wasn’t too pleased about.”
Anastasia understood instantly. Thomas must have been punished because of what happened at the club earlier.
Back then, he should have reported to Harrison first, but instead, Thomas had purposely let her walk right into the lion’s den to get her in trouble.
Serves him right, she thought with a huff.
She turned to leave but suddenly paused and glanced back. “What about those women from before
Logan opened his mouth to reply, but his expression suddenly shifted. He looked over her shoulder and bowed respectfully. “Mr. Lancaster.”
Startled, Anastasia spun around—and ran straight into Harrison’s arms.
“What are you two talking about?” Harrison slipped his arm around her waist, holding her close in a possessive gesture. He shot Logan a look that was cool and unmistakably territorial.
Logan immediately dropped his gaze.
“Darling!” Anastasia wrapped her arms around his waist without missing a beat, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “What brings you here?”
No sooner had she spoken than she felt his grip on her waist tighten. Harrison narrowed his eyes. “Why? Am I interrupting your conversation?”
Logan felt sweat bead at his brow. How had a simple conversation landed him in the crosshairs of Mr. Lancaster’s jealousy?
Anastasia caught on, too, and fought back a smile. She swayed playfully, clinging to Harrison’s arm. “I was only asking Logan a couple of questions!”
The suffocating tension evaporated, and Logan quietly exhaled, relieved.
“If you’re curious about something, you can ask me directly,” Harrison said, leading her away by the hand.
Anastasia puffed out her cheeks, sneaking a glance at his tall, imposing frame and the handsome, chiseled profile. “But what I wanted to ask was about those other women
“They don’t count.”
“Huh?”
“They’re not my wives.” Harrison stopped, his lips pressing into a thin line, a hint of annoyance in his voice. “I never married any of them.”
He paused, then gently brushed her cheek, lowering his voice. “You’re the only one who’s ever mattered.”
Anastasia stared at him, her heart thudding so hard it felt like it might burst from her chest.
Suddenly, she flung herself into his arms and hugged him tight.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing!” She buried her face in his chest, desperately trying to hide her smile— but she couldn’t stop the corners of her mouth from curling up.
His only one. He said she was his only one!
A little ways off, Logan watched silently. He wasn’t even close, yet somehow, he still felt like a third wheel.
“So, those women… why were they-?”
She trailed off, unsure how to phrase it, but he understood exactly what she meant.
At the mention of those women, his expression grew colder.
