Chapter 443
Rosewood Manor.
“Mr. Harrison Lancaster, Lauren would like to see you.”
Logan entered the room, his expression a touch uneasy as he made the announcement.
Harrison’s attention, however, was fixed on his phone. A tiny red dot crept slowly across the screen-Anastasia’s location.
Shouldn’t she be in class at the Global Harmony Medical Institute right now? Why had she gone to Kingsbridge University instead? Was something wrong? Why hadn’t she told him anything?
His dark brows knit together, distracted. The girl’s shadow consumed his thoughts, leaving him barely aware of what Logan was saying.
Without looking up, Harrison replied coolly, “No.”
“But she says… she can cure Mr. Harrison Lancaster’s illness.”
Harrison’s fingers, drumming on the desk, froze mid-tap. He looked up suddenly, his gaze sharp and cold. “She can cure me?”
For a moment, the force of Harrison’s presence was enough to make Logan lower his head in deference. “That’s what she said, sir.”
Harrison’s eyes were as deep and cold as a winter lake, his aura dangerous and commanding enough to make anyone’s heart pound with unease.
“Let her in,” he said at last.
Logan nodded quickly and left to fetch Lauren.
Soon, Lauren was brought in.
“Mr. Lancaster.” She tried her best to appear calm and composed, but it didn’t take long for her to realize she’d overestimated herself and underestimated Harrison. The man’s presence was overwhelming, a wall of pressure she couldn’t hope to withstand.
Just one look from him, and sweat broke out on her forehead, as if some deadly predator had her in its sights. She stood rooted to the spot, her body rigid.
“Do you know what illness I have?” Harrison gave her a once-over before his gaze cooled, his expression unreadable.
Lauren forced herself to remain steady. “If you’ll let me examine you, Mr. Lancaster, I’ll be able to tell.”
At that, the air in the room seemed to drop several degrees. “So you actually have no idea about my condition. Claiming you can cure me was a lie, wasn’t it?”
His tone turned icy. “Guards-”
Lauren’s face blanched. She hurried out, “I may not know the specifics, but based on what I’ve heard, I can make a very accurate guess about your illness! I just need to confirm it.”
Harrison raised a hand.
The stone-faced bodyguards who had started forward to escort her out immediately backed off.
“Speak,” Harrison ordered, his cold gaze fixed on her.
Lauren gritted her teeth. She had come here hoping to bluff her way through, to make this man beg for her help in the end. But from the moment she walked i Th, she realized
She was never in control.
Under the weight of his scrutiny, she could only offer her best deduction about his condition.
Finally, she said, “I swear I’m not trying to fool you, Mr. Lancaster. If your illness matches my diagnosis, I am at least ninety percent certain I can cure you.”
Her chin lifted, pride flashing in her eyes.
And she had every right to be confident. Tucked in her bag was half a volume of medical notes left behind by the legendary Cecilia-a treasure coveted by every physician in the field. Ever since she’d been named the successor to the Health Virtuoso, Mr. Brennan had entrusted the notes to her.
With those notes, she’d already solved countless medical mysteries, earning herself the reputation of a prodigy.
As for Harrison’s illness-by pure coincidence, Cecilia’s notes happened to cover
a case just like his.
That was why Lauren was so certain she could cure him.
Originally, she’d planned to hold off on treating Harrison, saving his recovery as a pivotal move in her rise to fame. But with AnastasiÄ… suddenly in the picture, Lauren saw no reason not to
fast-track her
plans.
