Chapter 781

“…..I didn’t mean it like that. Can you please not overthink things?”

“No.” Harrison’s gaze returned to the document. “If you don’t want me to overthink, don’t go around giving random compliments.”

Barnett was speechless.

He couldn’t help but marvel once again at what a peculiar creature a married man

was.

But then he put himself in Harrison’s shoes. If Anastasia were his wife…

Suddenly, he kind of understood.

Realizing what he was thinking, he rubbed his forehead, quickly suppressing the inappropriate thought.

He was very fond of Anastasia. She had struck him as different from the first moment he saw her, and the more he saw her, the more he liked her. But he swore to God he had no improper feelings for his friend’s wife!

Changing the subject, he asked, “What’s gotten into Barry? Why is he going to such lengths to cause you trouble?”

“He’s always causing me trouble. But he’s getting older now, so if he doesn’t hurry up, he’ll run out of chances. That’s why he’s being particularly zealous,” Harrison commented nonchalantly as he flipped through the file.

There was a reception that evening. Logan came in to remind him and ask if he would be attending.

After a moment’s thought, Harrison said, “I’ll go.”

After finishing the documents, he called Anastasia to let her know he might be home late and that she should go to bed without waiting for him.

Anastasia agreed, but she couldn’t fall asleep without him by her side.

She glanced at the time again. It was almost midnight. What kind of reception ends this late?

Just as she was grumbling, she heard a noise outside, faintly recognizing Harrison’s voice.

Overjoyed, she sat up in bed, her slippers padding against the floor as she rushed to the door and pulled it open-

Harrison, who had been about to push the door, stumbled forward into empty space. He wrapped his arms around the figure that had just pressed into his embrace, his chin gently brushing the top of her head “Why are you still awake? Didn’t I tell you not to wait for me?”

“I can’t sleep without you here…” Anastasia hugged his waist, then leaned her head back, wrinkling her nose “Ugh, Hubby you smeso strongly of alcohol. Are you drunk?”

“Not drunk.” Harrison lowered his head and nipped her nose, a low, husky laugh rumbling in his chest. “Don’t like it?”

Anastasia was sure he was drunk. The usual Harrison wasn’t this intense. Her face flushed as he kissed her, and she looked at him with concern. “Why did you drink so much?”

Seeing her worry, Harrison smiled. “What are you worried about? Do you think anyone would dare pressure me into drinking? I drank it all myself.”

Someone had asked about her and offered a few compliments. It had put him in a good mood, so he’d had a couple of extra glasses.

Hearing his reason, Anastasia found it both amusing and sweet. She urged him, “Go take a shower and get some rest.”

She pulled Harrison inside and pushed him toward the bathroom.

But as Harrison took off his jacket, he pulled her into the bathroom with him, his deep eyes fixed on her “I’m this drunk Are you sure you can trust me in here alone, Ana?”

He just said he wasn’t drunk!

Anastasia’s resolve wavered for just a moment before she was pulled inside.

After their little escapade, it was the middle of the night. She was so sleepy she could barely keep her eyes open, while the man, in contrast, seemed completely revitalized.

In a daze, she felt him carry her to the bed. A gentle kiss was placed on her brow, and a soft, deep voice whispered in her ear—

“Sleep now.”

Anastasia slept soundly until morning. When she woke up, Harrison was already gone.
