Chapter 92
“Don’t call me that. It makes my skin crawl.” Anastasia’s eyes were icy as she stared Aaron down. “Aaron, are you really that clueless? Fine, let me spell it out for you—I don’t like you. Why on earth would I go for a loser like you?”
“My husband is Harrison—Mr. Lancaster! He’s miles ahead of you in every possible way. I’d have to be blind to dump him for someone like you.”
“Oh, please. Marry me? Spare me. You can get a door key cut for a couple bucks do you even qualify for that?”
Aaron stood there, gaping in disbelief. Just a moment ago, Anastasia had been easy to coax, and now it was like she’d turned into a different person entirely.
“Anastasia?!”
“Don’t call me ‘Anastasia’-you haven’t earned that right. If you must call me something, try Aunt Anastasia—” She broke off with a mocking laugh. “Oh, wait. I forgot. Your father is just the Lancaster family’s bastard child. You’re not even a real Lancaster, are you? Forget ‘Aunt Anastasia’-just call me Ms. Sterling.”
She didn’t hold back in the slightest, trampling Aaron’s dignity without mercy. He couldn’t pretend anymore. He wiped his face, voice shaking with anger. “Anastasia! Who do you think you are, talking to me like that?”
“Oh, please. Does it really take guts to put a bastard’s son in his place? But if you insist-fine, I’ll tell you where I got my nerve: my husband gave it to me. If you’ve got a problem, why don’t you go to Rosewood Manor and take it up with him?”
Anastasia lifted her chin, her pretty face radiating scorn and confidence-she looked absolutely untouchable.
Next door, Logan was witnessing a miracle unfold.
The moment Anastasia’s words-“My husband is Harrison”-floated over, it was as if the entire atmosphere shifted from the dead of winter to the warmth of spring.
Harrison turned his head, listening intently to the voices coming from the next room. After a pause, he said quietly, “She called me her husband. Did you hear that?”
Logan blinked. Inside, he was thinking, Wake up, Mr. Lancaster-you are her husband!
But outwardly, he put on a look of genuine emotion and answered earnestly, “I heard her, sir. Mrs. Lancaster clearly loves you very much.”
At that, the corner of Harrison’s mouth lifted-just the faintest hint of a smile.
Logan was stunned. Mr. Lancaster was never one to show his emotions; ever since his illness, Logan hadn’t seen him smile at all. Who would’ve thought that just a few words from his new wife could bring a smile to his face?
Logan felt a wave of emotion. Clearly, the new Mrs. Lancaster was unlike anyone else for him…
“Should we go in, sir?” he asked.
“We should,” Harrison replied, his expression darkening with a flash of menace, but his tone was gentle. “If we wait any longer, Ana might get bullied.” Dıscover more novels at.net
Logan almost choked. From the sound of it, it was Mrs. Lancaster doing the bullying-Aaron didn’t stand a chance.
Back in the lounge, Aaron was a mess, desperation making him reckless. “Your husband? Please. Harrison’s a walking corpse! What do you even see in him?!”
Anastasia rolled her eyes. “What’s not to like? My husband is tall, handsome, wealthy-basically the dream bachelor. Why would I ever want you instead? Where do you even get your confidence?”
Aaron exploded. “So what if he’s rich? He’s not long for this world—”
He stopped dead, his eyes fixed on the doorway, face draining of color as terror overwhelmed him.
