Chapter 561
With that, Harrison ushered her into the car. The rıghtful source is.net
The reporters swarmed forward, but the bodyguards formed a human wall, blocking their path. Their shouted questions went unanswered, and they could only watch helplessly as the car pulled away.
Defeated, the journalists returned to their stakeout in front of the company building, where they managed to corner Mr. Lynn instead. If they couldn’t get answers from Anastasia, her second-in-command would do just fine.
Mr. Lynn was glowing with pride. “Of course our Chairwoman succeeded!” he announced. “Unison Pharma will be at the conference tomorrow, and we will show everyone what we’re truly made of!”
But when pressed for details about the new drug, he echoed Anastasia’s sentiment. “I have no comment at this time. The answer will be revealed at the conference tomorrow. You’ll just have to wait and see.”
He was planning to have his moment of triumph tomorrow. The new drug Anastasia had developed was going to leave everyone speechless, and for maximum impact, he knew secrecy was paramount.
The interviews from outside Unison Pharma quickly hit the internet.
Lauren grabbed her phone, her expression souring as she read the headlines.
“Anastasia succeeded? How is that possible!”
Penny was just as agitated. Even if Anastasia’s success didn’t directly harm Lauren, she was a rival for the family inheritance. Penny couldn’t stand to see her win.
“How could that little nobody pull it off? I’ve never heard of her having any skills in this area. This has to be fake news!” she insisted, scanning the article for cracks in the story. “Look if she really succeeded. why would she tell the reporters no comment’? It’s because she hasn’t developed anything, so she can’t make up any details!”
“If she’d actually won, she’d be gloating all over town by now,” Penny continued, pointing at the screen. “But see? She answered one question and then ran away. That’s a
guilty conscience if I’ve ever seen one She’s just saying she
succeeded to save face!”
“And look at her! She looks completely drained. Does that look like someone who just had a major breakthrough?”
If that was just speculation, a message Lauren received moments later seemed to prove Penny’s theory-someone had discovered that just a few days ago, Unison Pharma had quietly purchased a new drug from a private research lab.
“See!” Penny exclaimed, her voice rising with excitement. “If she was so confident she could do it herself why would she buy someone else’s Work? She was bluffing from the start! She pretended to be working all week, then bought another lab’s research to pass off as her own!”
Lauren came to the same conclusion, and a wave of relief washed over her. She
let out a contemptuous laugh. “So that’s how it is.”
She glanced at the online comments. While some people were questioning the validity of Anastasia’s “success,” other fools were actually buying it, praising her as a genius for developing a new drug in just one week.
Lauren sneered. “Buy some trending spots,” she told Penny. “Let’s build up the hype for tomorrow’s conference. Make sure everyone is eager to see the ‘genius’ Anastasia’s performance.”
If Anastasia wanted fame, Lauren would be more than happy to give it to her.
She couldn’t wait to see how Anastasia would handle the fallout.
