Chapter 947
Crystal’s face flushed with embarrassment, and she shot back, “How is this not my house? It’s my father’s house. If it’s not mine, is it yours p>
Anastasia replied, “Is your father’s last name Lancaster p>
“You!” Crystal’s face turned beet red with rage as she glared at her.
Just then, Susan appeared, all smiles. “Anastasia, you’re here! You must be here to check on Carter. Please, have a seat p>
Anastasia raised an eyebrow in surprise.
She hadn’t expected Susan to be back already.
And Anastasia noticed that, compared to her previous pretense, Susan’s smile seemed much more genuine now, with a hint of ingratiation.
Clearly, she knew her situation had changed.
“I won’t sit. I’m going to see Carter,” Anastasia said, heading straight upstairs.
Carter was in his room. Anastasia had just reached the door when it opened from the inside.
A faint smile touched the young man’s lips. “You’re here p>
Anastasia nodded and walked in familiarly. “Don’t you get bored staying in your room all the time? Why don’t you go out p>
Before Carter could answer, she added, “Is it because of those two outside p>
Carter didn’t deny it. He closed the door and followed her, pouring her a glass of water.
Perhaps knowing Carter liked to stay in his room, Ryan had been quite thoughtful in setting it up. The room was spacious, more like a suite with a connecting study and a small living area.
Anastasia put down her medical kit, checked him over, and administered a few needles. Her brow smoothed out, and she smiled. “You’re recovering faster than I expected. It might not be long before you’re just like any other person p>
At her words, Carter’s expression relaxed, a hint of joy and anticipation showing through.
He had been frail his whole life and thought he would always be this way. He never expected to meet her.
Looking up at the girl packing her medical kit, a soft light filled Carter’s quiet eyes.
“Do you know where Susan went last night?” Anastasia asked suddenly.
Carter paused, thought for a moment, and shook his head. “I’m not sure. I heard she wasn’t feeling well and went to the hospital Was that not it?
Anastasia narrowed her eyes.
She’d had her suspicions, but now she was sure something was going on. Why else
would they be so secretive?
“And your dad?” she asked.
Carter replied, “He left yesterday afternoon for a business trip p>
Anastasia had heard that Ryan had found a new job, but she didn’t know what he
was doing, though it seemed to keep him very busy.
Still, she felt a little annoyed. No
matter how busy he was, he shouldnt leave Carter alone with Susan and her daughter. Did he not remember how Susan had treated Carter before?
After a moment’s thought, she said, “Do you want to come back with me? I’m so bored at home, and if
you live there it’ll be more
convenient for me to give you check-ups p>
This time Carter paused for a few seconds before reluctantly shaking his head. “No, that would be…inconvenient p>
“What’s inconvenient? Are you worried about Harrison? It’s fine! I asked him about it before, and he said it was no problem p>
That wasn’t a lie. She really had asked, and Harrison truly didn’t mind, saying only that he was happy if she was happy.
Anastasia could tell that, for the sake of her friendship with Carter, Harrison was making an effort to accept him.
