Her tone was half playfully chiding, half mock-accusing, but there wasn’t even a hint of reproach; instead, she sounded positively smug.
The women crowding around the mother and daughter immediately began showering them with praise again. “I’ve always heard Mr. Brennan is so aloof, never interested in women, hasn’t dated anyone all these years, and he’s a celebrity, too! It just had to be Penelope-she’s the only one who could win him over!”
“The Brennan family might keep a low profile, but everyone knows their pedigree. And Mr. Brennan is so handsome and accomplished-Penelope marrying into a family like that? Every debutante in the city must be green with envy!”

The compliments left Nora and her daughter beaming.
Penelope shot a triumphant look at Anastasia. “Did you hear that, Anastasia? If you apologize to me, maybe I’ll convince Ben to send you an invitation to our engagement party.”
Juliet, seething, looked like she was about to step forward, but Anastasia-still looking down at her phone-suddenly grabbed her arm.
“Marrying into the Brennan family?” Anastasia raised her head, half-smiling. “I have to say, you really are a world-class daydreamer.”
Penelope’s heart skipped a beat. There it was again every time Anastasia gave her that look, something awful always seemed to happen.
But not this time. She was sure of it. She had Benson completely in the palm of her hand; nothing could possibly go wrong with the engagement now.

“Maybe check your phone before you say that,” Anastasia interrupted, a faint, unsettling smile curling on her lips. “Are you sure my cousin would still be interested in you after what’s all over the internet?”
Internet? What was she talking about?
A cold jolt ran through Penelope. She tried to convince herself Anastasia was bluffing, but she couldn’t help pulling out her phone.
Before she could open anything, one of the women nearby, who was already checking her phone, suddenly gasped.
“Oh my god! Penelope, is this…is this really you?!”
The woman slapped a hand over her mouth, eyes darting between her phone screen and Penelope, her expression a mix of shock, disgust, and open contempt.
The other women, drawn by the commotion, crowded around to look as well. After seeing what was on the phone, every one of them wore the same look of stunned disbelief.
“Oh my god…it really is her. It’s Penelope!”
All eyes swung to Penelope, who felt her stomach drop.
“What are you…what are you talking about? What do you mean, it’s me—”
Before she could finish, Nora snatched the woman’s phone. Penelope craned her neck to see and then she saw it.
She froze. Her face drained of color, and her hands shook violently as she snatched the phone away from her mother.
There, playing on the screen, was a video of her-intimately entangled with Sandra’s boyfriend, Samuel.
Her eyes went wide with horror. She fumbled to exit the video, only to discover there were more-another one with Aaron.
Somehow, someone had posted all of them online. The view count was already in the millions.
“How…how is this possible?!”
Penelope could barely hold onto her phone. She looked like she might faint.
She was sure she’d already paid a hacker to erase all this!
Suddenly, she remembered something and whipped around to glare at Anastasia.
Anastasia just smiled, lips quirking. “That was me. Problem?”
“Anastasia! You bitch! I’ll kill you!” Penelope lost all self-control. With a scream, she lunged at Anastasia in a frenzy.
