Harrison glanced at him. “You want that equipment?”
“Yes! Mr. Harrison Lancaster, you must know, the people under me are all doctors. They need these things the most…”
“I cannot give you that equipment,” Harrison refused directly, without a moment’s hesitation.
He had prepared that equipment specifically for Anastasia. It was a gift for his Ana.
But before Hubery could feel disappointed, he continued, “However, I can donate a batch to the Global Harmony Medical Institute later.”
Hubery was overjoyed. “Really?! Then on behalf of the doctors at the Institute, I thank you in advance, Mr. Harrison Lancaster!”
Amid his excitement, Hubery hadn’t lost his senses. “Then, I wonder what Mr. Harrison Lancaster would require from me in return?”
There was no such thing as a free lunch. Hubery had been prepared for this when he walked in.
“I don’t need anything in return,” Harrison said. “However, I hear that your Institute has a rule that aspiring medical professionals cannot treat patients privately before they are admitted. Is that correct?”
Hubery was a bit surprised. “Yes, there is such a rule. How did you know, Mr. Harrison Lancaster?”
“I believe that rule has outlived its usefulness. Don’t you agree, Mr. Jones?” Harrison looked Hubery in the eye, his tone calm but carrying an unyielding weight. Hubery paused for a second, then agreed without the slightest hesitation. “You’re absolutely right, Mr. Harrison Lancaster. The Institute’s rules were set by previous directors and are long outdated. Many of them are quite unreasonable. I’ve been meaning to change them, but I just haven’t had the time. I’ll get it done as soon as I get back!”
Harrison was pleased with his attitude. No wonder a man like this had become the director of the Institute. He knew how to read the room, got things done, was smooth, and willing to bend when necessary. More importantly, as director, he was devoted to the Institute’s best interests a virtue many lacked.
He nodded. “Then it’s settled. If there’s nothing else, Mr. Jones, I won’t keep you.” Hubery was stunned again. That was it?
He asked tentatively, “Are there no other conditions, Mr. Harrison Lancaster…?” Donating such a valuable batch of equipment for such a trivial request?
Hubery found it hard to believe, but Harrison’s actions told him that this was indeed his only, barely-a-request, request.
Hubery felt like he had won the lottery. “Thank you, Mr. Harrison Lancaster, for your concern and
support for the medical field
behalf of the Institute’s doctors and the patients who will benefit thank you. I will make sure everyone knows of your generosity when I return!”
“That won’t be necessary,” Harrison said concisely.
He had no interest in such accolades or in receiving gratitude.
Hubery was inwardly shocked again.
What was going on? He didn’t even want the recognition. Was this pure charity? But could Mr. Harrison Lancaster really be such a benevolent person…?
Though still skeptical, Hubery’s face was full of sincere smiles. “Your integrity is admirable, Mr. Harrison Lancaster. Rest assured, I will put this equipment to good use and not disappoint your generosity!”
After making his promise, Hubery remembered something and said casually, “Speaking of which, today is the Institute’s annual assessment. We’ll be welcoming many new talents after today. If you’re interested, Mr. Harrison Lancaster, you could come and observe.”
Harrison’s gaze shifted slightly. He then suddenly capped his pen. “Then let’s go have a look.”
“Huh?” Hubery was momentarily taken aback. He had only extended the invitation as a courtesy…?
