Chapter 403
“Yeah, that’s right!” Juliet recalled what had happened at dinner, sounding worried for her. With a sigh, she said, “They say it’s over five hundred years old! Grandpa and Grandma were over the moon, praising her for being so thoughtful
“I went there today, but I wasn’t allowed in,” Anastasia interrupted her, her tone calm. “Still, I left plenty of gifts behind including yours. Did you see them?”
“Gifts?” Juliet sounded confused. “No, I didn’t see anything! You were there? No one told me!”
Anastasia’s lips curled into a cold, humorless smile. “I see.”
After hanging up, she immediately turned to Logan Lockwood. “Tomorrow, find out what happened to the gifts I left at the Brennans’.”
Logan nodded without hesitation.
Early the next morning, Logan carried out her instructions and returned with the news. “The Brennans’ staff said they threw everything away.”
Anastasia let out a laugh, though there was no warmth in her eyes. “Oh, really? Then I suppose we’ll have to ask them where exactly they threw them. I’ll be retrieving them myself today.”
“Retrieve what?” Harrison Sterling’s deep voice called from the staircase, just as he came down.
He was dressed casually, sleeves rolled up to reveal his strong, tanned forearms. His gaze was intense-dangerous, yet irresistibly alluring.
Anastasia rushed over, wrapping her arms around his waist with practiced ease. She pressed her lips into a thin line and explained, “I went to the Brennans’ yesterday. I couldn’t get in, but I left the gifts behind. Their staff says they threw every last one away.”
“But get this—Juliet told me last night that Lauren, trying to show how devoted she is, managed to get her hands on a five-hundred-year-old ginseng root, which she used to make soup for my grandfather.”
“Five-hundred-year-old ginseng is practically impossible to find. I just gave one to Grandpa myself, only for it to be tossed out, and now Lauren miraculously produces one herself? What are the odds?”
By the time she finished, Harrison’s eyes had turned ice cold.
He’d already been furious that Anastasia was turned away from the Brennans’ when she’d tried to visit Mr. Brennan yesterday, but he’d held it in for her sake. Now, hearing this, his patience wore thin.
Anastasia was equally upset. Having her things stolen was one thing, but the ginseng was different-Harrison had prepared it for her grandfather himself. Now Lauren had somehow made it look like she’d obtained it for him. How could Anastasia possibly swallow that?
“Do you want to handle this yourself?” Harrison asked, his tone making it clear that if she didn’t, he’d deal with Lauren himself.
Anastasia narrowed her eyes, a spark of inspiration lighting up her face. She grinned, swaying his sturdy waist as she looked up at him. “Let Logan go and collect the gifts. You and I put a lot of care into choosing every single one-they’re not the sort of things you just toss in the trash.” For more chapters visıt.net
Harrison immediately caught on to her plan. With a fond, indulgent smile, he raised his chin and gave his orders. “Logan, you heard her. Go-make sure you retrieve every last gift Mrs. Sterling left for the Brennans. Not a single one missing. Understood?”
Logan was quick on the uptake. He smiled. “Of course, Mr. Sterling. I’m on it.”
Anastasia watched Logan leave.
Let’s see, then just where in the world are they going to dig up that five-hundred- year-old ginseng from the trash?
