“I want you to meet some of my friends.”

“Then I’m free!” she said, sitting up excitedly. So far, Marcus was the only one of his friends she’d met. “Where are we going?”

What a coincidence. Anastasia remembered that was where Lennon was holding his birthday party. But she dismissed it after a moment. It was just the same venue; they could easily avoid each other.

The next day, Anastasia had planned to wait for Harrison at his office before heading to the Blue Club together. But before she could leave, she got a call from Bruno, telling her that some of his old friends were the Austin estate and he wanted her to meet them.

She had just reached the entrance when she heard Gwen’s voice. Turning, she saw the familiar group from yesterday-Monica and her entourage. Unlike the day before, they were all dressed to the nines.
Cursing her bad luck, she replied to Gwen, “I’m meeting some friends.” She started to walk past them. “I’m going inside.”
But Monica stepped in front of her. “So, you actually came.” She looked Anastasia up and down with a smug, disdainful expression. “Tsk, tsk. It was just a server position. I only offered it casually, and here you are, eager as can be.”
She crossed her arms, her tone dripping with condescension. “Well, since you’re here, I suppose I can’t go back on my word. Just make sure you’re quick on your feet tonight. Serve well, and you might get a good tip.”
