Chapter 490
In Lauren’s fan group chat, the audit students were still brazenly mocking Anastasia. As ten minutes ticked by, they bombarded Cora with questions—was Anastasia’s expression priceless? No one from their group had shown up; surely she must be utterly humiliated by now!
It took a while before Cora responded, but when she finally did just two short sentences-the group chat fell instantly silent, the previous giddy excitement snuffed out like a candle in the wind.
[Anastasia is serious! She actually has the authority to expel the audit students!]
[Hugo, the man who works right beside Mr. Lockwood, is here!!]
The group was stunned.
As realization dawned, everyone’s expressions changed in an instant. Panic sparked. Phones were shoved away as people rushed in a scramble toward the conference room.
But Anastasia was already gone.
She was on her way to find Mr. Lockwood to report what had happened. She’d barely made it halfway when her phone rang-Logan’s name flashed on the
screen.
“Ma’am, you need to come back immediately! Mr. Harrison Lancaster- something’s happened!”
Logan’s voice was tight with urgency, and Anastasia’s mind went blank for a second.
“What happened?!”
“Mr. Harrison suddenly started coughing up blood-he’s unconscious now!”
For a moment, Anastasia nearly dropped her phone. She didn’t pause to think- she spun on her heel and sprinted outside. ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ
She raced back to Rosewood Manor as fast as she could. Several doctors were already gathered these were the ones who’d worked with Thomas before, helping monitor Harrison’s health.
But now, they looked at a loss, helplessly exchanging glances. When Anastasia burst in, relief flooded their faces as if their anchor had finally arrived.
“Ma’am, you’re back!”
They’d all heard about how capable she was.
“Where’s Mr. Harrison? What’s his condition?” she demanded, barely slowing as she hurried inside.
“Mr. Harrison’s awake!” A maid rushed down the stairs with a gasp of relief.
Anastasia took the steps two at a time, raced to the bedroom, and flung the door open.
There, propped up against the
headboard, sat Harrison. His
handsome face was paper-white. The sight made her heart seize she threw herself into his arms. Honey!”
Harrison slowly opened his eyes. His ears rang, his whole body wracked with pain, but none of it showed on his stole face. When he saw Ana his faceted a hand to gaze softened. He lifted gently stroke her hair. “Why are you back so soon?”
“Logan called me. He said you were coughing up blood and passed out Her voice trembled, almost imperceptibly.
Harrison’s heart ached for her. He cupped her cheek, his thumb brushing away the tears threatening to fall. “I’m fine. Don’t cry.”
She bit her lip, forcing back her tears. But when she looked down and saw the vivid red stains on his crisp white collar, she felt a chill from head to toe.
“How did this happen? Why did you suddenly cough up blood?” she pressed her mind racing. Was it his illness? But she checked his wals every day-nothing should have gone wrong.
Without waiting, she took his pulse, her expression darkening by the second. “Darling, what did you eat just now?”
Harrison’s condition had been stable for weeks, but now something had triggered a dangerous flare-up.
He froze, hand still on her cheek. “Was it something I ate?”
Logan’s face paled. “Just now, someone from Lady Lancaster’s side sent over a restorative soup. Mr. Harrison drank a bowl
“Bring it to me!” Anastasia ordered.
A servant hurried in with the tray. Anastasia took the bowl, lifted it to her nose, and after a single sniff, her beautiful face turned grim.
