Chapter 229
“A big shot?”
Anastasia raised an eyebrow, bemused. “Come on, our school’s crawling with distinguished alumni. What’s so special about another ‘big shot’?”
“It’s different this time!” someone immediately protested. “Word is, this guy isn’t just another successful graduate-he’s in a whole other league!”
“Yeah, totally! Rumor has it the principal personally invited him, not just once, but several times. He always turned them down-until now. No one knows why he suddenly changed his mind
Anastasia just nodded absentmindedly, clearly uninterested.
No matter how impressive this so-called big shot was, could he possibly compare to her Hubby?
“So… does this have anything to do with why you wanted to talk to me?”
“Well… sort of!” Maggie admitted, making a sheepish gesture with her hands before rubbing them together nervously. “Actually, Anastasia, we wanted to sign you up for something. What do you think?”
“Sign me up?” Anastasia blinked. “For what, exactly?”
“The welcoming committee!” Maggie blurted out. “The school just announced it— they’re picking ten students to form a committee to personally greet the special guest when he arrives!”
“They’re choosing the ten students by popular vote on the student forum, and I just know you’d be perfect! You’d make our department proud, Anastasia!”
Anastasia wasn’t particularly interested, but when she glanced up, she found all the girls watching her with hopeful, earnest eyes.
They’d come to her specifically for this-it was a big deal to them.
All right, go ahead and put my name down.”
“Yes! Anastasia, just wait—we’ll rally every connection we have to get you votes! With you on the team, our department is sure to win!”
Honestly, with a face like Anastasia’s, how could they possibly lose?
Maggie was brimming with confidence.
Anastasia couldn’t help but smile at her, amused by Maggie’s overflowing sense of school spirit. But girls like her were easy to like.
With that, there wasn’t much else to discuss. Anastasia checked the time, ready to leave.
Just then, Maggie seemed to remember something. “Oh, by the way, Anastasia, did you go to the exhibition yesterday?”
Anastasia hesitated. She wanted to say yes, but remembering Harrison’s instructions, she shook her head. “No, I didn’t. Why?” Thıs text ıs hosted at.net
“That’s a shame you have no idea how amazing it was! We saw the most gorgeous dress, a piece by Master Bing. Someone bought it right on the spot!”
“They say the buyer’s some real VIP-dropped a fortune just to make his girlfriend happy!”
“If I were that girl, I’d be over the moon! She’s officially the envy of every woman in Fairhaven now!”
A faint, secret smile tugged at Anastasia’s lips.
Thanks for the concern-she really was that happy.
“Well, we’ve kept you long enough. You should head home, Anastasia!” Maggie said, a little hurriedly.
After all, everyone knew Anastasia had a notoriously strict boyfriend-she always rushed off after class.
Meeting the girls’ teasing glances, Anastasia simply smiled, her expression sweet as she waved goodbye and left the café.
-But she didn’t head back to her apartment.
Harrison was out for the afternoon.
Perfect. She’d use the time to make a quick trip to Rosewood Manor to give Marcus his treatment.
