Shirley’s expression turned cold as she strode over. “Anastasia, what’s so funny?!”
Helen was right behind her. Now that she’d realized the girl she’d just cozied up to was connected to the famous Mr. Harrison Lancaster, she practically floated into the room, completely dismissing Anastasia.
She scoffed loudly, “Some people probably think Shirley’s lying. Not surprising, really. With her background, how could she even imagine something like this?”
Juliet and Sandra, who knew the truth about Harrison’s identity, exchanged uneasy glances with Shirley and Helen.
Anastasia gave a half-smile, rising from her seat and responding to Helen, “You’re right, I really can’t imagine it. The legendary Mr. Harrison Lancaster is Ms. West’s Uncle Harrison? Funny, I’ve never heard of him having a niece like you.”
Shirley sneered, “Oh please. What could you possibly know?”
She looked down her nose at Anastasia. “People like you aren’t even qualified to step near Rosewood Manor’s gates.”
Behind her, the same girls who’d just been wary of Anastasia now burst out laughing, their ridicule unrestrained.
Hidden among the crowd, Penelope tried to shrink into invisibility, her face rigid with discomfort.
