Chapter 115
“What’s going on?” someone whispered.
“Who are they yelling at… Anastasia? Isn’t that Ms. Anastasia Sterling from the Sterling family? Did she really throw them out?”
As soon as someone uttered Anastasia’s name, Mrs. Sinclair’s wailing grew even louder.
“Our home’s been stolen-there’s no point in living anymore!”
“I saved her mother’s life all those years ago, and who would’ve thought this ungrateful brat would repay kindness with betrayal!”
She kept repeating herself: she had shown great kindness to Cecilia, and now Cecilia’s daughter, Anastasia, had turned into a heartless ingrate-seizing their house, throwing out the whole family, and driving an old woman like her to the brink…
Although the Sinclairs weren’t exactly popular in the neighborhood, listening to Mrs. Sinclair’s cries, the onlookers couldn’t help but think even less of Anastasia.
They’d all heard rumors about her-spoiled, useless, always getting into trouble— and now, after hearing Mrs. Sinclair’s accusations, their dislike for Anastasia only deepened.
Never mind everything else—she actually threw an elderly woman out onto the street! What if something happened to her?
Did this girl have no respect for her elders at all?
Some people were already stepping forward to help the old lady up.
Just then, Anastasia appeared in the doorway.
She’d heard Mrs. Sinclair’s wailing. Cold resolve flashed in her eyes as she spoke in a clear, steady voice-
“You saved my mother’s life? Funny, I don’t remember that.” TÊœe sourcá´‡ of thɪs content ɪs
The moment she spoke, every head in the crowd turned.
“Is… is that Anastasia?”
Everyone stared at the striking young woman in shock.
Anastasia had been here before, of course, but she’d always dressed so
outlandishly, no one had ever gotten a clear look at her face…
Pretty or not, though, it didn’t change the fact: Mrs. Sinclair was still sitting on the ground, and everyone “knew” she’d once saved Anastasia’s mother.
“I did save your mother! Why would I lie?!” Mrs. Sinclair shot back, her eyes flickering with guilt before she mustered up a righteous glare.
Anastasia gave a cold, mocking smile, folding her arms as she looked down at the old woman. “You mean the time my mother got food poisoning and you called an ambulance? That’s your so-called ‘life-saving favor’?”
She didn’t wait for an answer-her voice suddenly sharpened.
“Let me guess. You think I was only three at the time, so I wouldn’t remember what really happened?”
“The truth is, you wanted my mother’s nanny job for yourself. You thought you could do it just as well, so you forced the other woman out and took her place. Then you skimped on grocery money-kept the extra for yourself, and bought cheap, spoiled food. My mother got sick because of you!”
“And just because you called the ambulance, you expect to be treated like a hero?”
“My mother didn’t even hold you accountable, and now you’re here, waving your so-called ‘favor’ over my head? Honestly, do you Sinclairs have any shame at all?”
With every word, Anastasia’s voice grew colder.
She might have been little back then, but nearly losing her mother had left a memory that was impossible to forget.
Mrs. Sinclair had come from out of town to visit her daughter. They’d already booked her a hotel, but she’d barged into their home anyway-then caused all that trouble.
“You-you’re making things up!” Mrs. Sinclair shouted, but her voice was shaky. Anyone could see the truth in Anastasia’s words.
All at once, the crowd fell silent in shock.
A life-saving favor? More like a near-deadly disaster!
Seeing her sob story wasn’t working, Mrs. Sinclair quickly changed her tune, bursting into tears again—
“Our home’s been taken from us! Is there no justice left in this world?”
“They’re only picking on us because we’re from the countryside! We’ve lived here for over a decade now with a few fancy words, our house is suddenly hers!”
