Lester was visibly moved and nodded slightly.

He didn’t know how to tell his mother that he already loved someone, but that it was a love that could likely never be fulfilled.

Mignon, however, didn’t notice her son’s inner turmoil. The mention of her friend, whom she hadn’t heard from in years, erased the faint smile from her lips, replacing it with a touch of melancholy.

Her dear friend, Wilma Jones, had vanished many years ago.

To this day, Mignon still didn’t know what had happened or why Wilma had felt the need to erase all traces of herself and disappear so suddenly.

What haunted her most was that a few years after disappearing, Wilma had suddenly contacted her. She said she had a child, a daughter, and wanted to entrust the girl to Mignon’s care, just for a little while.

However, at that very moment, Mignon was caught in a scheme orchestrated by her brothers-in-law and the family matriarch. She didn’t see the message in time, and by the time she did, Wilma was unreachable, having vanished completely once more.

From the tone of Wilma’s message, Mignon had a dreadful premonition that her friend was likely no longer in this world p>

But her child had to be out there somewhere. Yet, after so many years of searching, there was still no news.

Back when they were young and unmarried, she and Wilma had jokingly promised that if one had a son and the other a daughter, they would become in-laws.

For all these years since her friend’s disappearance, Mignon had clung to that lighthearted promise.

But with no leads, she knew that hope was dwindling.

Anastasia was completely taken aback by the news.

Considering how relentlessly Naomi pursued her “Hubby,” an arranged marriage seemed completely out of character. She found it hard to believe.

“The Lawson family themselves are spreading the news, so it’s probably true,” Marcus said over the phone.

He added pointedly, “The Lawson family is in a tight spot right now Naomi doesn’t have the luxury of being willful. For them, marrying into the Hill family would be considered a significant step up p>

“Who in the Hill family is she marrying?” Anastasia asked casually.

Marcus let out a strange chuckle. “It’s someone you know, actually. Lester p>

Anastasia was stunned. “Lester? But I thought you said the Hill family p>

Harrison had long since investigated Lester’s background, but he would never have shared that information with her He would have preferred if the name was never mentioned between them again-even though Lester posed no real threat to him.

Marcus, having grown up in Riverton, was familiar with the Hill family’s situation and gave her a brief rundown.

Beyond a fleeting thought, the matter was of little concern to her. All she hoped was that, marriage or not, Naomi would finally stay away from her husband and stop being such a nuisance.

After hanging up, she realized it was dinnertime when a maid came to call her to the dining room.

When she arrived, Harrison was chatting with his grandfather. Most of the family was already there, but Carter was absent.

“Has Carter’s meal been sent to him?” she asked a servant.

Carter was living at the estate, but he never foined them in the dining room. His excuse was that he- preferred to eat alone and was usually busy with something on his computer during meals.
