Chapter 412
But applying to the Global Harmony Medical Institute wasn’t something you could do on a whim. You needed a recommendation just to be eligible.
And not just any recommendation-it had to come from someone with a real reputation in the field.
At first, she’d planned to ask her grandfather. But now… a better candidate had come to mind.
The next day, after her classes ended, Anastasia headed straight to the Medical School. After asking around, she found herself standing outside the office of the dean, Mr. Jerome.
When Mr. Jerome saw her at his door, he looked genuinely surprised. “Anastasia? What brings you here?”
“There’s something I’d like to ask you, sir. I need your help.”
He gestured for her to come in, curiosity plain on his face. “What is it?”
Anastasia didn’t beat around the bush. “The entrance exams for Global Harmony Medical Institute are coming up. I’d like you to be my sponsor.”
Mr. Jerome stared at her, as if he’d misheard. “You want what?!”
There were other faculty members in the office, all professors from the Medical School. They all turned to look at Anastasia, equally shocked.
One of them tried to let her down gently. “Do you have any idea how tough their entrance exam is?”
Anastasia’s expression was calm. “I do.”
“Don’t be ridiculous! Even we, as instructors, wouldn’t dare sit for that exam. If you go and score in the single digits, Mr. Jerome’s reputation as your sponsor will be on the line!”
The teachers shook their heads. Anastasia had been making waves lately, and most of them had started to revise their old opinions of her. But now, their impressions plummeted again. Did she really not understand what kind of place Global Harmony was?
The Institute only cared about real ability. They didn’t look at your age or your academic background. Anyone confident in their skills would give it a shot. But the fact that not even the faculty felt up to the challenge said everything about the difficulty of the test.
To these professors, Anastasia’s request sounded like a high schooler claiming she could ace a college calculus exam without ever taking a math class. It was laughable.
Mr. Jerome’s frown deepened. His tone grew severe. “This is childish, Anastasia! You may not care about your own reputation, but your mother’s name is at stake here. I don’t know what’s gotten into you, but if you apply to Global Harmony and fail, you’ll disgrace your mother’s memory. Is that what you want, after all these years?”
She admitted that, after personally observing Anastasia during the recent wager, she’d developed a sliver of respect for her-Anastasia wasn’t quite the hopeless case the rumors suggested. Follow current nová´‡ls on.net
But memorizing a single volume of Herbal Remedies Unveiled? At Global Harmony, that was as basic as 1+1=2. Did Anastasia really think that was enough?
There was more behind her words. News had spread that Lauren was back. Most people didn’t know that Anastasia was Cecilia’s real daughter, but she did. She also knew that Lauren was only the adopted child, the one who had taken Anastasia’s rightful place as heir.
And most importantly, two years ago, Lauren had earned her place at Global Harmony on her own merits, becoming the youngest student ever admitted. Her reputation as a prodigy was well established throughout the field.
It was obvious to her that Anastasia’s pride had been stung-she wanted to prove herself, to compete with Lauren. But that didn’t mean she was ready.
Didn’t she realize how far behind she was? The Brennan family had poured years into Lauren’s training. How could Anastasia possibly compare?
“Dean Jerome,” Anastasia said, her voice steady and sincere. “I’m not joking, and I’m not acting on impulse. I’ve thought about this for a long time, and I’ve prepared for it even longer. This is a decision I’ve made after careful consideration.”
