Chapter 269
Marcus-Mr. Jackson-she’d known him for years. She’d always thought she held
some place in his heart, even if it wasn’t all that significant.
After all, whenever he visited the Lancaster family to see Harrison, he’d
sometimes tease her just to pass the time.
She called him Marco, and not once had he ever failed to respond.
But now, she realized how wrong she’d been.
His expression just now was exactly the same as it always was when he used to toy with her. Exactly the same-she was nothing more than a passing
amusement, something he paid no real mind to, just a trivial distraction when he was bored.
Suddenly, something made her turn sharply, eyes darting up to the balcony.
And in that instant, a striking figure caught her gaze.
-Anastasia!
Alice’s eyes burned red, hatred clawing at her chest until it felt like her heart might bleed. She wanted nothing more than to break free from the bodyguards and tear
that woman to pieces.
Anastasia! Anastasia!!
It was all her fault-if not for Anastasia, none of this would have happened to her! Follow current nová´‡ls on
Seething with resentment and unwillingness to accept her fate, Alice and her mother were unceremoniously thrown out of Rosewood Manor.
Upstairs.
Anastasia met Alice’s glare and knew, without a doubt, that Alice now despised her with every fiber of her being.
But so what? She’d brought this on herself.
With a careless shrug, Anastasia turned away from the balcony.
She’d barely taken two steps when Harrison walked into the bedroom and caught her. His brow furrowed, eyes darkening.
“Woke up and didn’t call me? What are you doing wandering around? Does your foot not hurt enough yet?”
Before he’d even finished, he was already beside her, strong arms sweeping her up and pulling her close.
Anastasia knew she was in the wrong. Wrapping her arms around his waist, she put on her most pitiful voice, “Honey, I’m sorry!”
But even her quick apology didn’t get her off the hook. Harrison might have had a soft spot for her most of the time, but when it came to certain things, he was stubborn as stone. With a stern expression, he gave her a thorough “lecture” before finally carrying her downstairs.
By then, breakfast was long over, but Lady greeted them with a knowing smile and said nothing. The housekeepers, cheeks flushed, wordlessly brought out the breakfast they’d been keeping warm all morning.
After two days of rest at home, Anastasia’s foot had healed, and it was time to return to classes.
Naturally, Harrison went back to the apartment with her.
Lady had known for a while now that Harrison had moved into the apartment for Anastasia’s sake, but even so, she still found it hard to believe. Her Harrison, willing to go so far for a girl? Unthinkable—and yet, she couldn’t be happier about it. She sent the two of them off together, beaming with pride and joy.
Anastasia’s first class didn’t start until mid-morning, so Harrison drove her all the way to the university gate.
When the car stopped, he reached over and gave her neck a playful little squeeze, as if she were a kitten. “Go on,” he said.
Anastasia shrank away from his touch, about to get out of the car when
something suddenly occurred to her. She hesitated, then turned back with feigned casualness. “Honey, what have you been up to these past couple days? If you’re going out, can you take me with you?”
Harrison’s dark eyes lowered, settling on her face. “Shouldn’t you be focusing on your classes instead of worrying about this?”
“I’m just concerned about you!” Anastasia pouted, twisting around to hug him, cheeks puffed in mock annoyance. “I don’t care-I want to know! What have you been doing these past couple days?”
Her playful tone couldn’t quite hide a trace of anxiety.
It had just hit her-in her previous life, it was around this time that Alice had pulled something that not only got Thomas killed, but nearly cost Harrison his life too.
The memory flashed through her mind: Harrison, covered in blood, being rushed into the hospital. The image was so vivid, her grip on his suit jacket tightened involuntarily, wrinkling the fabric.
Harrison looked at her. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, really. I’m just worried about you,” Anastasia said quickly, trying her best to mask her nerves.
